Looking good Julia one question & one suggestion You say weghtshaft i say weighshaft, i only refer to this because my simple mind has only come across this in my Sweet Pea Book by Jack Buckler. ???? and he says "weigh"Just wondered why Also instead of Araldite for filling unsighty gaps and blending corners have a go with carbody scratch filler, no mixing, dries quick and sands better, and deeper fills can be built up in layers. Just a thought as when i try to sand araldite it seems to be a bit rubbery and clogs the sand paper. see you next time atb Kev
@julias-shed4 күн бұрын
Hi Kev, you are quite right I'm always getting the walshaert components mixed up so no surprise I got that wrong 😳 I wanted something a bit more robust than filler as it was on the edges of the plate. Good tip on the scratch filler I wonder if that is knifing stopper by a different name? Thanks 😊

I'm always amazed at how powerful these engines are, and the weight they can pull. Such a lot of fun, but the drivers don't seem very happy 😂. Or is it all the concentration 🤔 ATB Julia. Cheers Nobby
@julias-shed4 күн бұрын
It does showcase the power of steam 😃 Nobby. Running any miniature steam engine takes a lot of concentration. You are effectively doing two jobs at once driver and fireman. This is hard work on a smaller boiler like the 2.5" gauge locos as you don't have much thermal reserve. Personally I find it very tiring running them but it is brilliant to drive your very own loco ☺️

I would not have tig this part. Silver solder would give a better finish with no blow outs in the metal
@julias-shed11 күн бұрын
I'm not decided yet it's very handy to tack it with the TIG as you build up the assembly bit by bit. The blow outs are down to lack of practice/ experience and there's only one way to fix that 😃 there are some parts that have to be silver soldered so they hybrid approach can work with more practice. Thanks for your comments.
@gagasmancave885911 күн бұрын
Another good video Julia those bit you had to file off were a limitation of the laser cutting I suspect , I think Ed leaves extra so you can file the angled bit to fit. One thought that came to mind is to file an angle on the ends of the tabs in the slots so you could weld in the gap and reduce the filing, (something I will try in my cavern later)

Hopefully those countersunk screws between top slide-bar and motion-bracket have been Locktited in place. I remember one dropping down on a 15-inch gauge engine at speed, in the late 1990s, and being hit by the crosshead. It caused a lot of damage, not least it smashed the motion-bracket (a steel casting) so badly that our engineers had to fabricate a complete new one.

That is a very complex assembly to get to go together and move freely - there’s much to be pleased with there. Really excellent work. I encounter those assembly things frequently.
