Hey, These videos are just great. I am in the middle of refurbing a very poorly made classical and boy are the frets in a bad way! The fretboard is good but the frets are either loose, buckled or both. The guitar cost £10.00 around $12.50. I think completely new fretwire is the deal but will have to use my ingenuity to get a good result. I'll come back later sort of much later when the job is done. Cheers Andy

Why not just go for a wrap around with adjustable saddles? If you really want to fix your intonation

I also had the same issue with my Les Paul Junior, and was on the verge getting rid of it when I was advised to try FABER guitar parts 😮 what a difference this made to my LPJ, I replaced the old bridge, posts & bushings, apart from this making the guitar so accurate the change in sound is absolutely brilliant, I also replaced the pickup with a British made pickup from Bare Knuckle, The Nantucket dog-ear, this LPJ has now become one of my best guitars. Thanks for your video I have subscribed 🙏🏻

How often is it needed to paint the fretboard with maple. Or is it just a matter of pulling the frets out as clean as possible?

I don't paint the fretboard if not necessarily. Just do a very clean job on pulling the frets

Greetings, would you be so kind as to let me know about handling noise? I am fully aware this mic is fully intended to be used indoors and on a mic stand but I did see a video with this mic in an outdoor setting. It actually sounded great but they were very careful in their handling. Does it have much noise if hand held? Thanks.

Finally, a video on installing on an acoustic. There are so many that say it's for an acoustic, but the neck is not even installed yet. So no help to someone doing a refret. The filling of the sock is very clever. Was wondering how I was to support the neck once I got to the higher frets.

Every brand of strings of the same size intonates different string lengths so if you want perfect intonation replace the stock wrap around bridge with one that has 6 adjustable saddles like several sold by schaller or Stewart McDonald , Gotoh makes one too. The bridge nut inserts come out by putting a short 1/2" rod under the threaded nut and screw down the nut to pull out the insert as the rod pushes on the guitar wood and moves up the insert and your ready to tap in your new bridge inserts that come with your new bridge and i bought the Stewart McDonald low profile bridge to put on my Epiphone LP special and it now has perfect intonation and chords are beautiful sounding.

I do not understand your issue with the original bridge. I own a Gibson SG Special which comes with a similar bridge. The bridge itself was fine, but the original Gibson studs were not able to hold the bridge in the right zero angle position. I exchanged just the studs by TonePros. Those allow to fix the bridge properly from the top so that it cannot turn. That also fixes all intonation problems. No new bridge needed, just proper studs (which are, by the way, built according to Gibson specs from the 1950ies. I do not understand why Gibson now sells guitars with those crappy studs that every owner has to replace. )

I like the fact that this bridge is still a "Rigid" style bridge without individual adjustable saddles. Just a modern version of the old style wrap around bridge. Just better designed. I just bought a 2022 Les Paul Jr. and might try an ABM bridge. I use 10-48 strings. Thanks for posting this video.

That was one of the best refret instructional videos I have seen - a huge thank you for posting it. I've seen others use CA glue after setting the frets and it seemed to be more forgiving if a fret doesn't seat all of the way flush on the first attempt. Is there a benefit to putting the CA glue in the slot before setting the fret? And, what kind of CA glue is it that you are using that gives you the time to get the fret set?
@HilkoGuitars
@HilkoGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Explained in a very simple way: CA glue cures when you take away the oxygen. So when you press the fret in (relatively fast) the glue will harden pretty fast around the tang and will stay there. Have a great day, Hilko

Love the video and music. the recipe shows about 55% water/flour which is fairly low especially with the whole wheat flour. I am curious whether that's all the liquid in the dough. and, I have to ask, what do you. do with 6 or 7 loaves after you bake them??
@HilkoGuitars
@HilkoGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Hiya Joe, Thanks for your comment. Yes for this flour 55% hydration is fine (The flour is produced in Belgium and it's called DARK, its a mix for a darker bread) If using strong bread flour I would use around 70% hydration. You can give some loafs to neighbours and friend or keep them in your freezer. Best, Hilko
