It's essentially the same design that Volkswagen used for the MK1 VW Polo. Volkswagen own Audi, so that's why the first Polo model was able to take the same design. Incidentally VW still makes the Polo today (though it's not sold in America). I think they're on the MK7 now! And although this Audi 50 was short-lived (Audi decided to focus on making larger cars); as I said VW adopted the design for the MK1 Polo, until it was replaced by MK2 in 1982. Audi, later returned to making small cars (in 2011), when they launched the Audi A1 (not available in America) - which is a descendent of the 1970's Audi 50. And now we're on the MK2 of the Audi A1 (in 2019?). So the Audi 50 turned out to be a very important car for both Volkswagen, and Audi. Today though, although the A1 and Polo have the same chassis design, the actual vehicle designs are different from each other. The latest Audi A1 has a mote aggressive, angular look; while the current Polo design is more rounded, and very similar to the previous generation Polo.

Nice looking and great restoration work I have one of these in my garage parked for 44 yrs. Engine & trans needs work but entire body is dent free and also already primered. Most of chrome parts is in tack. Jt was my first car in high school back in summer of 1972

that was my dream car when i was a teen. a friend of the family had a 280Z and she let me drive it a couple of times. When I got stationed in Japan, I was able to pick up a "Fairlady Z" for like $1000. Drove it for 3 years and sold it for $1200 when I left.

What a beauty 😍 i had a 1979 with the same engine and with Ws6 performance package and with t-tops. Was solar gold. Bought it new. You should have no problem selling her, she is quite the looker 😊😊😊😊
