So glad to see someone appreciate the humble carpenter pencil. I grew up on a farm in the Midwest and this was the only pencil I ever saw my grand dad use. He kept several in the farm truck and often tucked one in the small chest pocket of his bib overalls. Of coarse they fit great behind your ear. I will be glad to repurpose one for my sketching. Thank you for the reminder!

That was wonderful seeing your techniques while manipulating this interesting pencil! It really was fun to watch! I have a Koh I Noor triograph pencil….which is lovely but not nearly as versatile as yours…..I also don’t like smudgy sketches 😂

In the school that I work in they are forever getting the children to smudge their pencil work to blend it in and I have never liked it.. a good clean sketch is what I’m after!! Thanks for watching

I so enjoyed watching your slower process. I am a beginner at watercolor painting. I found it a bit frustrating in this 4th episode, I had a very difficult time hearing as you painted & used the pencils. Perhaps, you were speaking more to yourself as you worked along. I have a struggle with many because I have hearing loss, & at times my hearing aids do not pick up low tones & softness of one's voice. I really enjoyed watching & learning your process. Thank you!

I really love how the painting disappears at the edges it just pops and love your comment about taking it lightly playfully exploring and how one sees the colours in landscapes. The pencils add so much too. Wonderful.🐬

I use watercolor pencils and pans, I've been really curious about the inktense pencils! It was really helpful to see how the ink stains the paper under the water blooms. I think this has a very specific use. I had thought it would be good for detail, but I think now only if you wanted to bloom an edge line... worth experimenting with... but if you're a beginner: don't get them mixed up with your watercolor pencils! They're definitely not "interchangeable " 😊

Amazing how the piece transformed through the pencils. I haven't used inktense pencils much. I prefer the blocks. Do you prefer the pencils? And if so why? Anyway congrats on the series, very enjoyable AND helpful. Looking forward to a sequel?

Colin, this is brilliant. Thanks for showing us your process. The picture is lovely and really captures the colours of the sea. I’m a beginner and I’m interested in the idea of “illustrative”. There seems to be an inference that it’s a bad thing. Surely every painting that’s not photo-realistic must be to some degree illustrative?
@Woodwardswatercolours3 күн бұрын
I would tend to agree.. or I guess you could call it semi-abstraction.. it’s all about working with what you’ve got and having the conviction to keep going to the painting’s conclusion! Thanks for watching

Hi Colin, Really enjoyed the process of working in stages. There is so much to be learned in each stage & slowing it down gives a beginner, like myself, the necessary time to process! Thank you so much for your thoughtful approach!

When I draw with graphite, I usually put the drawing on an easle and walk away at various stages. It allows a fresh perspective. It can take weeks. I will definitely revisit this video as I find painting water a bit of a challenge. Gorgeous painting, and so interesting to see the process. Thankyou 🙏

Hi Colin. It’s been really enjoyable following you step by step in this process. I have to say I did get a little excited when you got the intense pencils out in episode three. I’m slowly building a small collection of them so I haven’t got round to using them yet! Good to see how you used them for additional depth but did use too much water so the pencil stroke are still visible and add to the overall effect. Thanks so much for taking us along with you, and I for one would definitely be interested in seeing more like this.

Great inspiration. Can almost feel like I’m the one doing this. I have just swatched my Derwent Graphtint and Mixed Media set. Pretty sure I have this and a Prismacolor Graphite. Good to have this really excellent work to keep in mind for sketching and embellishing my tomorrows for working this medium with places of little color in my memory bank. Very good work. Thank you. P
