It's likely Mpix has a low rate of returns and it's cost effective in the long run to send cheaper mailers and take a chance. May have just been unlucky. Very helpful video. thanks :)

I learned a ton from the video and I might try to sketch birds with a pencil. on 10:16 you used a very cool way to shade the birds wings. It got a good value variety and appealing . Did you shared any videos of how you do shading?

Lovely sketchbook tour Tara Kate. I spotted a few from my lovely zine...would be interested to know what hardness of pencil you use for drawing? I've started to try and draw/paint every other day, so I don't feel pressure to do it every single day. I'm also not trying to post as soon as I do it...as long as it goes up sometime then that's fine.

Thanks Tara-Kate, great video, I recently started to learn to draw faces, using the same Moleskine as you did, I set myself a daily time limit of 15 minutes as I know myself well enough that any longer very quickly starts to feel like drudgery and I get overwhelmed and give up, thanks for the great timely tips at the end. Quail looks great! Going from traditional media to digital is harder than it sounds. It certainly feels different and colours don't react the same way as they do in real life, so it's a slow learn, that's for sure. You must have been practicing! :D

@@thebirdartistscottage I haven’t seen the reference photo so this is only conjecture based solely on your painting. I wondered where the light was coming from but that being said I would put a little more shading on the reddish feathers. I would maybe darken a little under the beak as if that is throwing a bit of shadow on to those feathers. Also at both sides I would sort of curve the last line of feathers at the side edges to sort of make them look like they curve around the head a little also adding some shading to create form and dimension. Please take this with a grain of salt. I love your art.

I would def like a tutorial and just how a drawing session goes ….. like to do you light a candle, go to a certain page online that has good photos, make yourself draw 10 and then move to something else. As a self taught artist (and mom) w a part time job I can’t really figure out how much I need to draw each day, how many classes to do? I guess is just like some structure
@thebirdartistscottage2 жыл бұрын
These are all such good questions! I will work on putting together another video for you! In the meantime, I’ll just say: I usually sketch one bird a day because I usually don’t have time for more. I go to eBird and then the Explore tab and choose Search Photos and Sounds (just scroll down a little and you’ll find it). I pick a bird and do a sketch-quick, nothing fancy, just for practice. (By the way, these are the sketches you’ll see in the sketchbook tour post every month on my Patreon). As far as how many classes to do, I’d say only as many as your schedule will allow. Sometimes that’s one or even none depending on the demands on your time. Practice, just showing up day after day helps so much!! Even five minutes is better than none. Let me know if you have more questions and thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment! 🥰

Feeling so very grateful that you felt inspired to work with my comment by journaling about 🤗💖! Growth is always happening if we can face our fears, accepting them in love and manage to work with them somehow, I love that you called them invitations ❤️: If we can manage to accept them like that we are definitely evolving ☺️, we even can invite our inner critic then to have a coffee or tea with us and ask him what he or she wants to tell us… 🤗 . But we are human anyway and sometimes we are not in the mood for teatime or challenges at all and that is okay too, no judgment 🙏💖! You never can grow or evolve where judgement happens. I love your wonderful detailed birds and your KZfaq, Kate, so lovely ❤️!
