Sneaky sneaky NLP... I think. If it was, I'm actually quite surprised Penn and Teller didn't get it. Its actually quite brilliant. It wasn't flawlessly executed, but still very well thought though and was successful in the end so kudos. This was mentalism, not illusion. He starts by getting you to not look so hard at how the trick might be done by telling you that he will show you how the trick is done. That is designed to get you to not focus on figuring it out yet because you have no need, he will explain it later. Clever. While he speaks and is setting up the trick he emphasised words like ThinKING multiple times and emphasises the KING part everywhere he can. Even when he says "speak in code", he actually pronounces it as "spea KING code". And the code with a hard K sound. He says he wants to "show a tricK ING explain how its done" instead of tricK and explain..." But you overlook all the slight variations in his pronunciation automatically because he has an accent. Also very clever. He triggers our psychology around authority (which a king has). Also most people trust authority figures. So by getting Penn to choose someone "who's a person we Kan trust". He implanted the idea of the authority in everyones mind. He sells the 'King' and the 'K' sound in everyones head throughout the whole setup of the trick. There is more of this association, but you get the idea. Once the person is picked, he asks him to 'imagine' a decK of cards. What do people usually imagine, images or PICTURES. Then he says "do you wanna pull out the number cards" (lower pitch and softer) or do you want to pull out the picture cards (picture is more emphasised both in loudness and pitch. He also says 'picture card' as a statement in response to a question, rather than a question. That actually worked really well because the guy responds with "picture cards" in exactly the same manner that Asi says it. He does the same with the jack, queen and KING. King again is emphasised. The guy picks King as he was meant to. The whole setup is the get the guy to choose picture cards and choose the kings. After this I don't think it matters what suit he chooses, he just has 4 decks each with a different suit king in the wooden box. But only the wooden box. He then selects the right suited deck and voila, magic. There is that king and only that king. I couldn't determine any obvious nlp surrounding suit selection, which is why I think there was just 4 decks in the cardboard box we CANT see inside. The rest of the "trick" where he shows the spinning tray inside the table, the 2d picture of decks of cards, the clear box that opens a trapdoor, the mug that spins the wheel, its all irrelevant and a show. It had nothing to do with the original trick. He's not showing you how he did the trick, he's just leading you somewhere completely different which is designed to shock and surprise you more by an illusion that had nothing to do with the original trick. Also that way, you cant work out how the original trick was done, because now you're trying to incorporate the spinning wheel inside the table. Sneaky, sneaky. Impressively done. I may be totally off, but I'm damn sure that's how it was done.

The assistant who brings out the clear case also takes away the wooden box with the rest of the cards. All he needed was a way to insert his card of choice into the deck of blank cards, not 52 whole decks.

The sweater guy wasn't in on it. The card choice was forced, not a free choice. Think about it; he says "pull out" which can mean either pull out and hold on to or pull out and get rid of so the magician gets the audience member to select the right card

There are two types of card tricks where the audience picks a card, free choice and forced choice. This was a forced choice. The magician forced the picture cards by saying "pull out". If he chose the number cards the magician would have said pull out and throw away. There are other picture cards he could have chosen, of which were in the box but see how they were then removed by his assistant. He also took advantage of how audiences are excited to learn how a trick is being done, so he was able to draw attention away from the guy walking up on stage
@tookie3610 күн бұрын
@@rickysmythI say no. Under the hood there was 1 deck of blanks and 52 cards. He chose. Then the guy did as he said but instead of grabbing a deck he just had to grab the card and insert it into the blank deck. Which we can see. Then when the assistant takes the box it has the other 51cards in it.
@rickysmyth10 күн бұрын
@@tookie36 he had to force the picture cards. That brings it down to 12, not 52. If Trevor was allowed to pick any card then 52 would be needed like you mentioned of which is too many.

He pulls the deck out as if it was on its side. Looking at the wooden box, I imagine you could probably fit 12 decks, one for each of the face cards and each suit. No need for any sleight of hand whatsoever at that point. The trick is cleaned up as soon as the wooden box is removed.

At 07:15 he says:"that is a collaboration more than anything". Then he continues: "some fingerprints on this thing have been very much influenced by Penn & Teller". Hmm.... So this trick was done with collaboration with Penn & Teller even though they didn't know he has put a piece of flat cardboard in the circular table instead of normal real deck of cards?! But this trick involved Penn & Teller choose a specific person in the audience. Of course they didn't know about the flat cardboard in the circular table though... Penn & Teller were still fooled!
@maxb4085Ай бұрын
Thats not what he said. You are joining two things he said that are I different contexts. The first thing is him saying he worked with other magicians to create the trick. The second part, is not P&T helped him with the trick but that it is a similar style of trick to P&T or it is referring to his performance and how he acts on stage during the trick is similar to P&T.
