Great Videos getting a Lot from them, I'm new to this and trying to learn If this device is used, will I need to get License Keys for FPP? Will these from wired watts (sn12v50skp3-r) work with this?
@CanispaterChristmas
@CanispaterChristmas 26 күн бұрын
To my knowledge, the license key is for vendors who sell products so I don't believe end-users are required to pay for one (I haven't). The pixels you asked about use the WS2811 protocol (most common) so those will work fine.

Love your videos and I feel they help out a lot, found you through Xlights. Just getting started in RGB/pixel and Xlights , and I have a number of PI's that I once used for other things. I will have lots of questions and hopeful will find answers. One for now is the RPI-28+ a good way to start and learn how to setup sequences and working with Xlights and pixels, as a low-cost introduction to doing them? Or would you recommend something else. Thanks for your videos and help
@CanispaterChristmas
@CanispaterChristmas 26 күн бұрын
Thanks! I'm not sure what is supported from a legacy perspective, but you may also have trouble finding a 2B+ for sale. If you already have one, then I'm sure you can get a version of FPP that will run on it just to get your feet wet, it just might not be the latest version of FPP. Also, understand that FPP is just a player for sequences you create in xLights and xLights is kindof a beast in terms of a learning curve so I'd concentrate on getting familiar with that first which won't cost any money. 😂

It's been a while. I just order from Wired Watts now. He's "local" and I can fuss at him if needed. 😂

Well, let me add to that. If you are planning to buy a ton of pixels, then get Ray to send you a quote and compare prices. I buy in smaller batches now so I just buy from a US vendor.

The big cost buying directly from China is the shipping charges.

Great video I know that it's old but I had a mechanic replace my alternator on my truck and he got lazy instead of doing what you did he took the radiator hose off of the thermostat mounting and cause antifreeze to go into my spark plugs now it's misfiring and he claims that he didn't spill any antifreeze into my spark plugs that thermostat area is right just above the spark plug well I would never let him work on my truck again😢

Thanks! Oh man, been there! I've had my radiator hose blow off a couple of times, replaced the cap and it hasn't happened since. Seems to be a common problem. Fingers crossed. Hope you get that fixed soon if you haven't already.

LOL! I'm not opposed to making a buck and the people in the hobby have helped me more than you know. I love being able to control lights like I want and have fun making videos about it. Work life hasn't been kind to me lately so I haven't been publishing, but at least have been able to keep the display going. It's about the time of year to get started so hoping to get back to playing with lights soon.

So it looks like I'm a little late to the game, but thanks for this video. I'm running 4 16 foot ws2811 strips off an esp32 and they start freaking out occasionally. I bought some of the f amps and will be installing them between the strips.
@CanispaterChristmas
@CanispaterChristmas 4 ай бұрын
Friends don’t let friends use strip. 😂 They can be a little finicky. Flickering can be caused by so many things. Make sure to test the pixels separately to eliminate them as the problem. Then, make sure the grounds are good. Let me know how it goes.

Can it control ws2815 since its 4pin ?
@user-vv3kh5vh3z

As I see list doesnt exist, only broken link. Have contact them and got pretty shallow answer to my questions. Seems its just backup inside of strip, no need to connect anywhere just shortwire at strip beginning to gnd would be good. So every led chip except first gets data from two point. If you see chip as 12345 1. one have 3 wires to controller and backup data should be shorted to ground, unless you extend strip to strip. Chip 2. gets data in from data out of 1.chip and also backup in from data in from 1.chip. also for every next chip till end of strip. So any led in chain dies rest will keep working, but if two next to each other die rest will not work anymore becausee both data in and backup in are broken.
@CanispaterChristmas

@user-vv3kh5vh3z basically don’t try to drive 2 separate strips with the same signal. Either chain them together as 1 strip (and control them through software) or use 2 controller ports and set them as the same address so they output the same thing. xLights will do this and even has some live show capabilities (I don’t know a lot about that since I run everything automated). See Keith’s training video on the software.

What wire do you use? Different for 5v and 12v? I am going to be using both. So run a new wire about every 500 lights seems best? Thanks!
@CanispaterChristmas
@CanispaterChristmas 5 ай бұрын
I typically use what I have on hand at the time (I'm very scientific that way, lol). Just make sure the prop won't exceed the current capability of the wire. Make sure it doesn't overheat when you first turn it on. Try to stay with 100% copper. Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA) tends to corrode quickly. Doesn't have to be fancy silicone wire. 😂

Awesome to see you back Jeff! If it makes you feel better, I have footage to edit from Mattos Designs sending me Evo pixels before the launch date! Then my work and university studies got in the way.... maybe that video will get released with the joke of being exactly 1 year late from the launch 😂.
