The could have made more rechargeable battery in there, instead of 4 x D cell area but it is nice that there is a place to stash the charging cable. I actually like having a bigger lantern sometimes. The red flashing is more useful on a lantern that size because you can put it on the road if you get a flat tire or something, especially on a curvy road. Seems dumber on headlamps that might roll away. You can always put a rock in the D cell compartment, too. D cells do make a good ballast. I kinda like the China versions that run on replaceable and rechargeable 18650 Li ion batteries, but this looks like pretty good quality. Costco's got them on sale July 31- Aug. 25, 2024 for $14.99

I need to replace m.y pitted windshield first but will tint my 99LC front. Just put ceramic 70% on my LS430 front which is black with black interior. Huge difference in blocking the heat because it block 99% of UV and IR then 30% of visible light so net heat rejection is around 65%. Regarding effects on night vision is cuts the glare of on coming traffic and changed the perceived color of my pure white halogens to a soft white look.
