Spartacus...I hear lived about 71 years before Jesus, and with those who knew the life of the holy prophet Moses, and how the true God freed the slaves from egypt, anyone ever wonder how spartacus life and death and it's effect on Rome prior to the life and birth of Jesus?

I actually enjoyed this film. . .but then, I'm a woman (I have a hunch that most of the people complaining about this film are men), and while I'm a history buff, I also know that this is a LOVE STORY, not a documentary. Basically, it's Titanic with airplanes. Actually, though, most of the historical inaccuracies in PH aren't super-obvious unless you're REALLY into WW2/military history. In many ways, I thought this was a great film, with a cast that was well-chosen, a compelling love story, and a GORGEOUS musical score. This film should be enjoyed for what it is, and if you want a more factual film about Pearl Harbor, there are PLENTY of documentaries out there!

3 generations seems to be the norm, I’ve witnessed it quite a number of times. In my late & very successful Fathers,( and Mums) case one of the sons is a useless lazy swine and has ruined the business, and joyfully, driven by some deep seated resentment,(totally unjustified). An over entitled and over indulged individual. Lessons of history never indulge or spoil your children, it often leads to an unsavoury outcome.

My mother was in Italy and used the restroom in the Italian stock exchange. She told me she couldn't use the restroom since it consisted as a hole in the floor. I guess that was what they considered a bidet.

There's a scene on the Bayeux Tapestry where King Harold is swearing an oath (I think to William) and he is shown with his fingers crossed on one hand.

Of course the Three Generations rule applies. First Generation worked like a demon to build the wealth. Second Generation saw what it took to be successful, but also grew up either neglected or treated as a workhorse by FG. Third Generation was spoiled by SG and neglected or berated by FG for not being a perfect clone of FG. If TG tried their own hand outside the family business, they were yanked back inside. TG was told to spend money but never allowed to make their own. Hello, shirtsleeves!

The reason why Christmas Day is December 25th is because Rome picked that day as the official shortest day: the day on which the Sun was reborn. It was more convenient to have the same date, rather than the actual day of the Winter soltice, to time mid Winter festivals. A couple of centuaries later Christians started to link the birth of Jesus Christ with this date.

Thomas Blood actually played the long game to steal the jewels. At the time, the public could view the jewels for a fee, so went as a parson with an accomplice posing as his wife. His "wife" feigned a stomach cramp and so Talbot Edwards took her to his apartment to recover. Blood feigned friendship with Edwards, even going so far as to buy his wife a new pair of gloves.

I have two menus from cafes from the 1950s that are handwritten from THE OFFICE OF PRICE STABILIZATION. One is for the Mississippi Room and the other for the Coffee Shop. They list the ceiling prices for each item served. They are framed in plain black wooden frames. I bought them at a used books store in a small town from us in 1999. The gentleman said his friend had purchased a building in a neighboring town and they were found in the attic. They have been hanging in our dining room for several years and they are a good conversation starter!
