Thanks. Although, I don't think Splendor or 7 Wonders would be for anyone. They are not playable solo, so for those who want a 1-player option, these wouldn't be good choices.

I also love solo modes to learn a game👍 Maquis is probably my favorite true solo game and I'm looking forward to Legacy of Yu. I also enjoy solo gaming with roll & writes (Hadrian's Wall & Rolling Realms).

Love your current favorites. Went all in on Final Girl in the most recent KS and absolutely loving the season 1 content, plus the big box is awesome, especially the VCR box for the playmats. Going to definitely check out Bathysphere. Had to back out of the KS for Paperback Adventures but hope to pick it up one day. Just got in my Valeria games. We already got Dice Kingdoms to the table but hoping to give Siege a try next week when I have a week all by myself. Great video!

I'm leaning towards Undertow only because it doesn't seem like anyone really cares for the base game characters. I mean I never hear anyone say they like them. I see a lot of content creators use Duster and they all rave about Ghilli and Nugget. Undertow includes a campaign mode and I believe it takes up less shelf space. The only downside side I see is it's a bit more difficult to learn. For just $10 more, after adding the 2 characters, it seems like a better bang for the buck. Could you remind me what I'm missing if I take that route?

Wavelength is a great suggestion. It can definitely be a lot of fun, and works well at various group sizes too. One game I've had a ton of fun bringing to family gatherings is *Camel Up*. It has a silly theme, and all kinds of wacky things happen, but there's still enough there for your choices to feel important. It's hilarious watching people's reactions when they've bet it all on a long-shot, only to have it pay off big. Or to watch someone's winnings slip away at the last second when things go awry. What also makes it work well is that each player's turn is only 1 single action, so it goes around the table nice and quick!

If you’ve been working the NYRF that long, there’s a chance I saw you at Tuxedo Park a decade ago when my high school friends and I would visit in the summers after we graduated. And, a lot of my gamer pals are also fine artists, so Canvas has really had my eye. 🧑🎨

I would also add that each character has a "complexity" level, and that can make them easier or more difficult to learn for new players. If you're worried about a child or friend having difficulty learning the game, I recommend choosing two lower complexity heroes, and then playing the first game with cards FACE UP above your player board. This removes the element of mystery from the card-play, but it allows you to fully disclose YOUR choices when you're playing, which is very useful for learning, and it also allows you to point out suggestions for their first play-through. I'd also let them know that they don't need to memorize what every status effect does, as you can always read it as you're using it, to make sure you're doing it right. As well, you don't need to memorize the turn order, as you can keep the player-aid near you to remind you what you can do in each part of a turn. This makes the game VERY accessible for younger players, and non-gamers who might love the art, but otherwise worry the game is would go above their heads! Of course, there is deeper strategy that makes the game fun for experienced gamers as well -- I think that's really the beauty of the game. ** One final tip I'd point out to new gamers, is that it is a good habit to look at any status effects you have on your player board every turn, right before you start your turn and also right before you roll defense, if you're being attacked. Some status effects "go off" at this point, but it can also be useful to remember any positive status effects you might be able to use on your turn as well -- good management of your status effects can be the difference between winning and losing!

Such a hilarious story! I have played dice throne 100s and 100s of times, and I have so many crazy stories about games that ended in the most unlikely of ways. One that stands out is when I was first teaching my brother-in-law, I didn't let him win the first two games we played... and the third game, he was the Shadow Thief and I was the Monk, and I ended up just hanging on and on by preventing damage with my Chi tokens, and he ended up going through his entire deck trying to hit me over and over, and then evading my damage in return... we couldn't believe how lucky we were getting on defence, and unlucky we were getting on offence.. and then finally he finished me off with a natural ultimate! We just laughed and laughed at how crazy it was. Very few games I've played have managed to get me SO into the experience and the story of the gameplay itself, wanting to tell people how it all unfolded. Don't get me started on Dice Throne Adventures! :P

Loved Meg's excitement for Dice Throne -- my all-time favourite game! I'm so curious to hear about her experience trying out more Dice Throne at Gen Con! As well, I loved the game-choices everyone brought up.. Septima, in particular, has such a great theme and looks so fun! The new Clank sounds interesting with the build-the-dungeon-as-you-go mechanism, and Cora Quest seems like a really great intro game for kids that also sounds fun for adults to play too. Starship Captains was also on my radar, with some really interesting components and mechanics, and the art/theme really drew me in. I love the idea of managing a spaceship. Dice Theme park also sounds interesting! Love the theme and art of Fortify, so I'll have to check that one out!

Board game critic here, I would plan to walk the floor and plan on some specific games you want to play. If you are going with people it is even easier to get some games in, but I was surprised at how easy it was to meet people to play a game with. Going in with a plan will help you immensely.
