When Ridge Racer for the PSP came out, i wasn't even alive, yet it is one of my most loved and most memorable games that i've played. Sadly, my PSPs screen broke, and i'm still trying to figure out where to fix it. Now i currently play the Ridge Racer game for the Nintendo 3ds, which brings me some nostalgia. Also, The Soundtrack is finally on Spotify!!!

there was another game like this in the arcade. it was set up in like a mock small theater. it was 4 or 5 seats each one was a gunner. i cant remember the name but it was not starblade it was a few years later and THAT was probably the best of the series.

The first Ridge Racer and Revolution games should be remade with Today's graphics. That'd be amazing. There's no better way of celebrating its 30th anniversary than that.

Dude this video is immaculate, you killed it. I have super fond memories of selecting a bunch of demo discs from OPM and just letting an afternoon melt away. The menu music from Uk PS magazine was unforgettable. Many a late night flicking between Parappa, Croc, Resi 2, Armoured Core and so on. Absolute bliss, thanks for the trip.

Ridge Racer was the first game I played in my Ps1. just because it came with the console. i still have it today in its big plastic case. i played this weekend in a native ps1 I purchased years ago. I also have played other ridge racer games in a raspberry pi emulator. Brings me back good memories from when i was just a teenager mesmerized with the graphics difference between my new ps1 and my old snes. In videogames history we never saw that graphics and sounds revolution before. And probably will never see it again. What a time!

I’m starting to get the hang of this game it’s really fun, but I still am having trouble with the grip type cars I can’t seem to win races as easily as when I’m driving a car that drifts. Still a wonderful amount of fun, even made me get the psp installment.

The very best way to play Star Blade today is the Wii Virtual Console version. Of course you can't buy it anymore (it was a Japan only exclusive anyway), but there's ways and places. So, if you manage to run it on a Wii with the wiimote, the control will be perfect

Well, that explains why CyberSled and Starblade mysteriously vanished after the PS1. Maybe if CyberSled and Starblade could've sold maybe 8-10x more units than they actually had, we could've seen CyberSled and Starblade titles on the PS3, PS4, or possibly even PS5 by now. Also, I'd love to know the name of the song that plays at 27:38 - 29:42

I was really hooked on Ridge Racer 7 about 18 years ago. For me, Ridge Racer 6 & 7 were the two best games in the series by far. In fact, those games turned me into an RR fan! I hope we'll get a new game on the PS4/5, as opposed to more pachinko titles or re-releases of past games on the PS Store. This is one of the few remaining arcade racing game series not named Need for Speed that seems to be at least somewhat relevant. The rest of them like Burnout and Daytona USA are long gone.

ngl to me the last RR will be RRV, after they introduced the nitro it loses the charm of it being chill and arcadey. if I were to bring RR to today and age, i wouldn't introduce it as a major AAA game, instead I'll bring it back as a indie level of the OG RR game with a passion of reboot

Nice video. The Ridge Racer games have been by far my favourites amongst all the games that i played. You managed to highlight the features of them with an on point edit and a selection of soundtracks amongst the most popular ones. Thank you for giving the series the credits it deserves, hoping for a new release on newer generation consoles.

Was thinking for Ridge Racer to return with 8. So basically it should be RR7 plus vehicles from 3D and Vita + tracks from PSP titles, R4, V, 6, 7, 3D and Vita. I was thinking Kamata Fortune from V has an opportunity to come back with new design based on newest Civic Type R. And Terrazi Gaia based on that Ace Combat billboard. RR8 should innovate compared to previous entries while keeping the franchise roots. For example, other than Grand Prix / side events, there should be an explorable Ridge State where you undertake side quests or illicit street races across the State while still keeping closed circuit for sanctioned races.

@@Andreas32300 you're right. I wish they would put every car manufacturer ever existed in RR, giving them specific features when it comes to the car capabilities. For example Assoluto with high speed cars, Kamata with all rounded and very stable cars, Gnade with high handling cars, Lizard high acceleration cars ecc...The key point is to keep the identity of Ridge racer alive without trying to make it similar to other games.

30:28 there is a reason people made this comparison, on the back of the box it deliberately avertises and I quote :”R4 has to be the best-looking PlayStation racer ever (yes, edging out even Gran Turismo)." Whether or not that is what critics meant by level of quality is beyond me.

I am a big fan of multiverses but more importantly, of grabbing a massive collection of media IP and glueing them all together in one shared universe. I knew Dig dug was related to Mr Driller but other than that a the Galaxian sequels I never knew ALL THOSE GAMES were in a shared universe!!!!! WOW my mind is blown!!! THANX

If anyone looked at the North American "long box" cover art for both Cybersled and (some rare editions of) Starblade Alpha, I don't think those "faces" did any favors to sell them (*especially* the one for Cyber Sled-it legit looks like meme material), and to think Ridge Racer almost used that box art style before it ended up being the manual cover. Now imagine if Tekken and Air Combat followed that cover art design language...

Galaxian3 arcade has a sad story. Namco made the decision for the arcade machine (Galaxian3 Theater 6 player) to use laser discs to display video on screen. Apparently these machines were prone to breaking down because of the custom laser disc player the machine used, and it's moving parts. The biggest flaw for Laser disc arcade machines in general is that the LD player constantly breaks down. The moving parts break down fast in an arcade environment (Even American laser disc arcade machines suffered this same issue). Arcade operators were annoyed by Galaxian3 laser disc player having issues. Also you can't just use any laser disc player. The Galaxian3 machine will only work with Namco's specific custom laser disc machine they provided. So you can't just swap it out with a different brand player when the old one breaks In addition, the CRT projectors needed constant maintenance and were power hungry. The projector bulbs needed to be replaced often which added to maintenance costs. Some arcades businesses ripped out the Namco provided projectors with newer digital projectors which was much less maintenance. Namco provided warranty support, but after your warranty expired (usually after 1 year), arcade operators had to pay to money to get their laser disc fixed by Namco. Usually shipping it To Japan to get the player serviced and refurbished. After several years, Namco stopped offering repairs. So arcade businesses were screwed and left with no option to repair their LD players officially. You either had to find some 3rd party repair technician who claimed they could fix it, or hunt for a replacement player on eBay or Japan auction websites. These players were rare so good luck. At one point these Galaxian3 machines were in almost every Dave and Busters across North America. So around 200+ G3 machines were made. But now only 2 still exist in working order in the entire world. The rest were scrapped, shut down, or thrown out. And who knows how long the current ones will last because no spare parts are available. Mostly due to the arcade machines breaking down with no way to repair the old custom laser disc players that Namco used. Good luck finding in 2024 trying to find a technician who can repair a 1993 Japanese custom Namco laser disc player. Most of them lived in Japan. They all either died or retired. It's really Namco's fault Galaxian3 didn't last as long as it could have been in arcades. There are many people online who want to play this machine. Like you said we are in a "Retro arcade Renaissance". These old big arcade machines are in demand again by players hungry to experience the past.
