35hrs max on the original Jumos was hardly conducive to a successful operational interceptor. But still, a hugely significant aircraft for all that.

These newly built replicas don't have anything like the original Junkers Jumo 004 engines. They use modern engines and they are vastly more reliable and efficient. And don't leave a trail of black smoke like they did in W.W.II.

Just think. If Germany had waited until a few years before starting WWII, their advanced aircraft and other weapons would have been too much to overcome.

Worth remembering that for all the impressive design, like much else of the wartime German economy the Me 262 was manufactured in parts in different KZ factories under brutal conditions by enslaved prisoners.

Britain was responsible for the Global Slave Trade and Endentured Service, the invention of the Concentration Camp and committed the worst mass genocide in human history.
@TechToWatch10 күн бұрын
To be clear, this is a replica, yes? What are the differences between the original? Mainly in the engine? Is the engine a copy of the original design but with better materials and engineering so much more reliable?
@FiveCentsPlease10 күн бұрын
+@TechToWatch It is a new-build Me-262 fitted with GE CJ 610 turbines. Several were made. The main difference are the GE engines that are mounted inside replica nacelles to look authentic and to keep the extra weight/balance correct for the aircraft. Other changes are modern brakes, modern avionics, and some structural changes/corrections. It is not a "super" Me-262 or necessarily an improved Me-262, maybe extra power and better range. Per the FAA notes, the Me-262 was merely an advanced prototype that was rushed into WW2 service still with flaws. So these new-build examples carry the same flaws and these are over-powered, making them more dangerous. It is a nice aircraft, but only for very experienced pilots.

This is a Genuine Me-262 C model built under license from Messerschmitt.

Development of the GE J86 began at Jumo in 1944 and was managed and produced by a team of Jumo engineers led by Gerhard Neumann, who became president of the GE gas turbine division.
@sandervanderkammen92308 күн бұрын
@FiveCentsPlease RAF test pilot Eric Brown flew the Me-262 and said it was the finest aircraft produced during the war and was a decade ahead of anything the Allies had. Aerodynamically, it was in class all by itself with excellent flight characteristics particularly at high transsonic speeds and good low speed handling with a stall and landing speed 50 mph lower than the P-51 Mustang.
