Do you have a recommended "color" for the drop lights? I fish off-shore party boat in RI, CT, and MA waters at 75-350' depths. Your video and information is great!

Great video. Very informative. I started SPJ about 5 years ago and I’m totally hooked on it , no pun intended. In the beginning there wasn’t much info on the technique except in Japan. I’m still learning each trip especially the deep drop trips in Montauk. Maybe one day I’ll meet you at the rail…lol

I like your honest approach and hope you are successful in your future. I do find my knots are stronger if I lube the mono with saliva or kitchen oil before cinching down as friction heating can deform or even cut into the diameter of the line. I like the palomar or uni knot for attaching tackle to the mono.

@@kwanifishing1637 I was thinking about going on a golden tile trip on the viking. I was wondering what I should really bring. I have a slowpitch setup like the one you were using the video with 50 pound braid. Was slow pitch jigging a popular option for catching the golden tile or just the cod? For golden tile I also have a heavier rod setup with 70 pound braid. Should I use a high to low rig on a triple swivel if I use the bait option?

Aiden - when I SPJ for tile on the Viking, the jigs I use are typically 500-600 grams and I only use 20 pound braid and a single hook on top and bottom. I’ve had days where I’ve done really well on the jig. I bring both bait and jig rods just in case one is doing better than the other.

Thanks for sharing. I tried fishing a 100 gram jig in 75 foot deep and I couldn’t keep the jig vertical. It wasn’t that windy out. Should I use a heavier jig? I was following a rule of one gram per foot. Thank you

it depends on how much current you had, maybe you needed to go up a little bit in size of the jig if you had to factor in current.

Well done - good information. I enjoy jigging here in Baja Sur, MX - on the Sea of Cortez. I mostly fish with 150 to 160 gram jigs up to 300 feet, however, often more like 200 feet a little less or more. Jigging is effective! We catch about everything - but allot of tuna. Right now - white bonito, barreletti, yellowfin and yellowtail. There are pargo and other bottom fish as well. Like you said - different conditions, different jigs are preferred. I’m looking forward this coming year to fish deeper - say 400 to 600 feet. Easy to get into that depth of water here like right away. -- Jigging is a learning experience. I appreciate your sharing.

bet you it’s overgreased. when you get a smoking hundred yard run from a tuna with overgreased drags you actually lose a significant percentage of your drag power. wipe off the old grease and reapply a super thin coat of cals drag grease
