Good points. What do you think about Hodinkee reedition? Would you pick 1972 reedition in 2022 over Hodinkee?
@HobbyOfHours9 сағат бұрын
I think that Hodinkee did a "generally" good iteration, weaving their DNA in their with a modest "H" at the bottom. The kanji day wheel makes no sense and is clearly a cash grab as they believe their Japan clientele are the likeliest to purchase. I love Japan, the JDM in general and they have a robust car culture. Little to no connective tissue to Porche generally or the original launch of this watch they are trying to commemorate. Strictly marketing and a sales goal. I'm glad Hodinkee is moving away from selling watches. They have no business doing it in the first place. Report or sell; you can't do both with integrity. That said, neither release impresses me. No real improvement to the movement and titanium simply isn't expensive. If PD had released it in the 5-6k range where it belongs they'd have sold a bunch. With original examples still available under 3.5k "some days" there is only one choice. The OG. Avoid the lemania movements. Their base plate is made of plastic and is junk. Ask...me...how...I...painfully...know. I wish China would ramp up Lemania 5100 production with a real base plate. Then it would be superior to the 7750. Except it's too thick. Ranting as I just got a repair bill for a silver PD Lemmy 5100 needing a new baseplate. Heartbreaking. 1.5k. Ugh. My 4 cents!!

how is it compared to the vaer version?
@HobbyOfHours7 күн бұрын
A challenging question as I haven't held the Vaer. I like what Vaer is up to and they have a "cool" name but no comparable heritage if that matters to anyone. Too big at 40mm tho size appropriate for the modern age and has a Sellita (at 1k, it needs better than a Miyota). The new Vertex 36mm reissue is superior IMO, uses the same Sellita, but is 2.5x the cost of the Vaer. Vaer makes a modern interpretation of another company's watch and I'm good with that. Vertex has modernized their own design. I like that a bit better. My two cents!

Great vid! As a word of warning, have the right tools. There's so many videos online of guys popping bezels off of watches with small pry levers or knives. Don't do it. You can bend your bezel or damage it. This video was extremely helpful. I recently picked up a 2254.50 that had the bezel improperly removed, after an hour of massaging the bezel straight, it's sitting flush again but still slightly hard to turn. A new bezel is not easy to find and when you do, they're $500 or more new. Thanks again for the great vid!
@HobbyOfHours8 күн бұрын
So glad you enjoyed it and absolutely, having the right tools is key. You can get a bezel from your Omega authorized watchmaker for around $300.00. No need to go to ebay for it as they are often second hand and likely, warped. My two cents! Best, D

Just for everyone's information, we don't use red flashlights because they're low vis. Red (and to a lesser degree, green) light does not affect your night seeing as the flashlight user. When you turn it off in the dark, you aren't blind for a minute like you would be had you used white light. You still need to be careful not to be seen when using red light. Fun side note: if you only have white light or if flairs are going off, we close one eye to not lose our dark vision in that eye at least.

Excellent review! I do have a slightly different perspective. Looking at how the Willards have depreciated in value, including limited editions being available at discounted prices, it's possible that the 62MAS will also see a decline on the used market in a few years. Regarding the Tropic strap, I wish these new versions would still retain the square pattern extending all the way to the lug area. Without it, they resemble any generic tropic strap.

I like this scale. It takes out sentimental value, but it also allows an older watch to stay in the hunt and not lose automatically based on specs. Mini rant: Watch opinions are a lost art because people overvalue specs and brand, with subjective factors taking a back seat. This format puts an equal weight on both.
