I still have to revisit this place and show you the mine I was looking for. This mine is there near the RR bridge, I have seen it before years ago. But perhaps I have to wait until autumn to find it again. Mine map Atlas does not show this mine site.

The mining industry was huge. There were so many mines and there also was a lot of logging and there were railroad tracks everywhere. Most of these were abandoned around WW1 Or just before WW2

There's another cool place you should check out in Conygham(Columbia County) township. It is the area between Old 61 and Snake Rd close to where they meet. There are all kinds of mine foundations all over this area and what I believe is a underground tunnel. You can see these on the lidar. There was alot of mining in the 1900s but no colliery. Railroad ties near by so the mined coal was probably shipped to a nearby one. If you walk the south road that goes behind St. Ignatius about a half-mile then walk into the woods to your right and you will start to see everything. I made a slideshow with the pictures I took there.

I did find one structure in that area Jess, also what looks like abandoned buildings as well, again... TY for the tip :):):)
@channeljess15 күн бұрын
@Bob_V I think you will really like it. I didn't see any walls but lots of building foundations that had an underground level where you can see tunnels. I found a 1930s large incandescent lightbulb. I think there were things set up for water drainage and electricity. Electricity poles with ceramic insulators, winches, all kinds of stuff on that part of mountain.There is a dry ravine that has a water tunnel in a 5-foot wall made of stones.

I dug and dug and I couldn't find information about a town in this location. If I had to give it my best guess, those houses were built when the Locust Run colliary was active. An 1860 map of Conyngham township indicates a town called Dawsonville almost in the same location as Ashland and Scottsburg near Germantown.

Bob - that's a 1952 Mercury Monterey ragtop. Look it up - bumper & side trim match up. What general vicinity is this in? Locustdale? It's amazing what's still back up there in the woods in 2024. Do you guys ever get up in Raven Run up near the Jackies or up the Coal chute/bucket?

That road is somewhat there. There are some buildings by the bypass road for graffiti highway. I tried biking up that road from Ashland but it ends at a waste rock pile. There is/was a mine near the trestle that crossed the road. Part of FRO Ashland North Trailhead.

It’s essentially a Foster-Seely discriminator. Invented in the 1930’s. Fell out of favor when IC circuits were introduced circa 1970.
