Szell and Fleisher were perhaps the most harmonious couple in classical history, in any case the most perfect. The dynamic is imply unrivaled.

Ashkenazy has got to be one of my favorite pianists of all time. He always has a way of playing/interpreting the music in such a beautiful way, while still recording and accomplishing so much! I've been looking for this recording for a while now since I've been very curious about it because Valdimir apparently dislikes this concerto a lot. I was upset to find that it cant be found on Spotify but luckily KZfaq exists! This is absolutely amazing!

I bought this LP whilst still a poor university student. It seemed a down-market purchase at the time. Little did I know! Like Casals's Cello Suites, this never grows old.

The beautiful piano concerto, written actually by Ottorino Respighi... no scam was involved, just a clerical error. Brahms, a Saint of the god Helios, could have written it; his First Concerto is very Branwen, the Celtic Saviouress; profoundly so- Brahms was from Levertys ancestrally, Saxon Celtic. This B flat concerto can be attributed with the god Ze, for us astrologically attributed with the planet Hulos. Such excellent piano playing, Rubenstein- Rubens Tein means Young Maiden; very early in the race a young maiden of the First Race could have a kid Parthenogenetically... he comes ancestrally from those who have been called Aramaean, Middle East, Second Race... Helios, in Cymric Kethureremeth...

I heard it played last night at Blossom, the Cleveland Orchestra's summer home. I had never heard it, and am grateful today to the CO for programming it, and to soloist Mark Kosower, conductor Hanna Lintu, and the players for a brilliant performance. (Marred slightly by a mourning dove in the rafters who wouldn't shut up.)

Toscanini had little respect for Beecham, who called Toscanini "an Italian bandmaster," but this performance rivals Toscanini's in transparency, incisiveness, and expression.

The first movement is musically very well composed, but suffers from two important problems: - a certain expressive uniformity; - if the first theme is excluded, the thematic elements are poorly characterized and their development, however well thought out, fails to give the work a "direction"... The second movement is thematically beautiful, but it is the quite literal transcription of the Andante op. 79 (completed and orchestrated by Taneev) and, as I know that piece, I often have the perception that the piano must enter at any moment, it would be necessary to have the sketches of the slow movement of the symphony available to know how much Tchaykovsky and Taneev adapted the original Andate as a concertante work for piano and orchestra but my feeling is that something is missing in this orchestral version. The scherzo isn't bad at all and after all it's the re-orchestration of a piano arrangement of the original scherzo of this symphony in E flat. The ending is a typical "pout-pourri" finale, made up of episodes, not all of which are of the highest structural and thematic quality, some things seem bordering on musical bad taste to me and I think it is more Tchaykovsky's fault than Bogatyrev's. Little to say about the performance: Ormandy was a great conductor, here he manages to give continuity and tension even where they are lacking (finale) and the Philadelphia Orchestra played in a superlative way.

Most listeners would prefer Weber's clarinet concertos due to their dazzling displays of virtuosity. It takes a mature mind to appreciate the subtle simplicity and the divine ingenuousness of Mozart.

If I am not mistaken, Strauss wrote this at the age of 17, for his father, Franz Strauss, who was a virtuoso horn player in the Munich court orchestra.
