I have worshipped at the altar of Ed for most of my life, but this leaves me cold. It's just self-indulgent wanking but without the cutting and pasting that made the LWAN solo great.

I caught one of the Live Without A Net shows in New Haven that summer. This solo is so different than that one. The solo from the Live Without A Net video is actually parts from both nights edited together.

Man that is some great footage. Just curious does anyone know what kind of camera he may have been using, or what was popular back then? I’m guessing handhelds weren’t as common and were very expensive back then. I’m just amazed at the quality, does not seem like almost 40 years ago.

I was 20 in 1986. I was under the spell of two women who forced me to do three things repeatedly to them until I passed out. I missed out on tons of VH concerts in Phila time and again though I finally cleared my heads to see Edward at the "Monsters of Rock" in Phila.

Alright there is no doubt about it. The guy is the best. It’s almost like there aren’t enough cords for him to play. He probably invented a new chord or two and we never heard him play it.

The problem with most guitar players isn't that they set goals to high. It's that they set goals to low and they reach them. Eddie never set a goal. He just played.

As a guitar player myself, we all try to reach the point to where we want our heart and soul to flow through us onto the guitar. We never reach it. Eddie lived it every night. Just amazing. He was just built different.
