Not bad, but enough trips and you’ll learn how to handle them with the proper technique. Tail hooked or not you have to put the wood to them. Great job either way.
@boycefishing11 ай бұрын
You are 100% right, I ended up applying more pressure to all the fish after the first one. The first fish in the video was the first knife jig fish of the trip and I was unsure how big it was. I kept it in high and waited for it to turn back around and swim at the boat so I kept it in high gear. We live and we learn so thank you for the comment!

Love seeing you use talica reels. I bought several of them and love them.
@boycefishing11 ай бұрын
I have my bass boat full of shimano reels so it was only right to transition the brand over to saltwater gear. I've upgraded from speedmaster to talica on the 12ii last year, it was a bit odd to my ocd having the spm along with the tac 8 and 20. Also, I got a Penn Fathom 2 40 for sinker rigs so you'll see those on this next trip if we find some bft 150+ft in the day time. On one of my other videos someone asked for a video on my gear so I am going to get started on it once the 40 shows up.

Bend that polkadot rip roller back and use it again. It’s still good. These bend when they bring fish over the rail and jig gets stuck below. Happens all the time.
@boycefishing11 ай бұрын
I considered doing exactly that and have no reservations about fishing it again. Although I am planning on keeping it as a momento from this trip. If push comes to shove, we are gonna fish it again but for now it is retired. I believe it got bent from the amount of fish it put on the deck. Thank you for the comment and the support!

The ones in my bag right now were purchased last year (or the year before) from one of the landings or the local shop here in Phoenix. I'm not too sure the color matters at all, as long as it sinks fast and gets in front of them.

I noticed you are using a single hook with no assist. I think that helps you get down to the fish slightly quicker. Obviously no problem hooking them. What type of hook were you using? Well done! Never seen such an effective knife jigging session. You were in the groove
@boycefishing11 ай бұрын
Vincent, thank you for the question about the hook. Later today I will film a video on how I rig my knife jigs. Am I the best? No. Although I am sharing what I have learned thus far. The hook in this video was a 10/0 floating around in my hook box. I think it was a Mustad but I am not entirely sure that is correct. Since this video I changed to a jobu hook you will see in the video I make today. Check back later on for the knife jig rigging vid!

Thanks for toughing it out and cringing through as much of the video as you did. The captain put it in low for the last 100ft, fish was tail hooked so I thought it was bigger than it was. I'm certainly not perfect.

The biggest ones caught were around 20, so nothing to write a book about. This trip was one of the first to go south and look around when the bluefin shut off. You can hear the captain saying we don't know what to expect going down there. It was a great trip given how many single digit fish counts were coming in around the time of the trip.

@boycefishing2 жыл бұрын
@@ecgonefishing1099 I'm glad you like it, thanks again! For casting lures, most people use 9ft and 10ft rods. 6ft is probably too short for getting a ton of distance with a surface iron but if that is all you have it shouldn't stop you from giving it a try. In the video I was throwing a colt sniper 120g that is a bit heavier than a typical surface iron.
