Hi Jelly and Mr P, your adventure gets more and more exciting. Did you have to setup tent every night like some did in your previous video? Was it scary to be so close to lions, hyenas and hippos? In the previous video you mentioned that Botswana faces two major environmental problems, one of which is drought. How does the drought affect the Okavango Delta? I have so many questions I had to rewatch your video many times to take in the massive amount of information. I am so happy to hear you get to see stars in Africa. I read online June, July & August are the best months to visit Botswana due to the cooler weather and risk of malaria is the lowest. Is it true? I was expecting hot and sweaty Africa but seems like the weather is super cold. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure.
@tzew
@tzew 9 күн бұрын
@tobyteng7522 hello Toby, thanks always for keeping in touch with our latest vlogs. I’ll leave jelly to share with you her thoughts on being so close to the wild animals first time. Weather in Africa can swing on a spectrum, with the south/ wild being generally colder compared to our later legs ie Kenya /uganda. There is also a huge feel-able temp difference when under the shade vs under the sun. Hence pre-trip packing really plays a part. We were there during the winter months, and it was cold enough to have lesser insects /mozzs which is a plus for Jelly.
@oheyjelly
@oheyjelly 9 күн бұрын
Hi Toby!! 😄No, we did not have to setup tent every night - these tents were prepared for us by Matsaudi and his crew. :P Quite pampered, I must say! It's interesting that you ask if I felt scared to be close to wildlife - it has never occured to me before. 😅 I think the understanding is for us to be respectful of the safety guidelines set by our guides e.g. never step out of the vehicle unless instructed to do so, never make loud noises, never attempt to touch or feed etc. Once we follow these guidelines, it should be quite safe for all tourists! 😄 It was considered "dry" season in Botswana when were there - hence the water scarcity and cooler temps. The great thing is I didn't get attacked by mozzies! I'll still spray some repellent here and there, esp. before going into game drives/walking into bushes. #kiasu #kiasi hahahha. We also brought along mosquito gels to be placed inside our accoms/rooms to deter mozzies! The waters did seem quite "low" everywhere, and hence elephants were roaming to find watering holes. I believe this coincides with the seasons - and that's when the migration happens for many of these creatures becos they'll be going in search of greener grass and water sources to survive. We were also told that most animals would give birth after August because that's when rains would be more frequent = lusher habitats = more food for all = greater chance of survival! All these info. shines light on how amazing and fragile wildlife is. 😔

0:01 maybe we should feature a travelling soft toy companion per trip. This is Shrooms. 0:37 If if I may say so myself, that's a pretty unique way of spending a bday 1:11 Botswana really has many, many elephants. 2:31 yes the skies are always this blue, even in winter. 4:16, oh yeah, I kept thinking we were being served by the Last Samurai. That said, Lift was a pretty comfy budget ride. The food/ drinks were unexpected. 5:15, there is also a 24-seater version of the truck. For our trip, we were lucky to be with 10 other really fun folks, and as a smaller group, got the upgraded version of the truck i.e 12 seater. Our truck is named Taureg Someone asked us why travel by road when it would be faster to fly? Sure, but there's something about travelling overland that makes the trip the way it was. Slower and more immersive, or maybe its just the vastness of Africa. 🐘

Hello there! Thanks for watching our vlog & joining the @oheyjelly KZfaq fam! I would say that hiking Mount Gede is generally less physically-taxing compared to Mount Kinabalu. There were some really steep terrain, but it's doable with more breaks in between and staying hydrated. There are also options to go slower, different routes, camp more nights etc, as long as it's communicated with your guide beforehand. If you're a 60-year-old who is relatively fit, exercises regularly e.g. hiking, climbing, running, strength training etc, I'd say that you're probably fitter than me (and most other youths!). 💪

@oheyjelly
@oheyjelly Ай бұрын
Hello there! Thanks for watching our vlogs & joining the @oheyjelly KZfaq fam! 😄 Each wall has its unique features, but the long meandering wall would be best represented by JinShanLing. There were also less crowds which allowed us to better enjoy the landscape in its entirety. There's a raw & natural beauty which i really appreciated. Some wall segments weren't fully restored, extremely steep & rocky. There are plenty of steps, and you could take time to walk, explore, climb & take in the sights, sounds and crisp clean air - but you must like hiking, and don't mind breaking into a sweat. The flipside was that there were little food choices, and lesser time on the wall for day trips. MuTianYu has more modernised infrastructure (in terms of cable car, food options, shuttle bus, general signs). It's an easier walk for someone with general fitness. If you don't like walking, there are also a variety of other transport options up/down the wall. It also has the toboggan for thrill seekers. There are definitely more crowds since it's nearer to Beijing. We also went to the Shan Hai Guan/ Lao Long Tou, which is the first Pass from the East and where the Great Wall ends in the sea. It was definitely interesting too. Ultimately, i think you may have to consider a multitude of factors - 1) how much time do you have to explore great wall? 2) how keen are you to hike, and also your physical fitness? 3) will you be taking public/tourist buses, or hiring a private transport? 4) do you prefer a more commercialized experience, or something more authentic? PS: I just returned from an early July trip to China and it happens to be their 2-month school vacation break now. It should extend till August and domestic travels are insane. Would advise you to go after August for sure. :)

Hello!! Thanks for the lovely comment & for joining the @oheyjelly KZfaq fam! ☺ We're glad to hear that you found the information shared helpful in your hike planning and preparation. Mt. Kinabalu is still one of the most tiring hikes I've ever done (remember to do more squats and step-ups/downs in your training!), but the view at the summit was....breathtaking. 😍 Do share with us your experiences and stories after you guys conquer the mountain! We'll be delighted to learn more.

Hello! Could you share more about what to prepare in terms of cash/payment for a traveller from Singapore? Thanks!
@oheyjelly
@oheyjelly Ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching our vlog & joining the @oheyjelly KZfaq fam! ❣️ In terms of cash, we didn't bring much for our trip. Almost everything (accommodations, food, sights etc) are taken care of as part of the tour package with your appointed tour operator. This is because Singaporeans (as well as most other tourists) are not allowed to visit Bhutan 'free & easy'. Any spare cash you bring along will be for personal purchase of souvenirs, snacks, tributes etc.

@@oheyjelly oo thanks for sharing! What currency should we bring?
@tzew
@tzew Ай бұрын
@@CEn-ro5ye Hello there, you could bring along SGD or USD and change at the airport. Alternatively, we used a multi currency card to withdraw Bhutanese Ngultrum direct. There is an atm at the airport, near the baggge carousell. Your guide would also be able to direct you to an atm within the town centre. Have a good trip!

Thank you so much for the informative vlog! Can i ask if you managed to get internet connection while up in the mountain? (:

Hello! Thanks for watching our vlog & joining the @oheyjelly family! We're happy to know that you found the vlog informative. 😀 W.r.t. your question, I believe we lost internet connection after the 2nd pitstop. Every time we go camping, we'll assume there's no network at the mountains 😂. It's a good time to switch off & be with nature.

@oheyjelly
@oheyjelly 2 ай бұрын
Hello there! I believe the ticket prices for JSL entrance varies depending on the time of the year you visit. April to Oct would be around 65yuan, while Dec to Mar will be around 55yuan.

@sparaglione hello there, thanks for watching our vlog. To add on to Jelly's comment, one way bus ticket from beijing costs 50yuan pp. The shuttle one way from the ticket counter to the wall entrance is 10yuan pp and the cable car one way is 40yuan pp (if you buy return there would be a slight discount at 60yuan pp). Hope this helps.
