It's interesting to hear that you have experience with FM3. I've been tossing up between this and the FM3. I'm pretty sure I know what you will say.. this one has better UI. FM3 has better sounds. But how much of a difference do you think the sounds have, especially the effects? I might put a Tonex in the loop, but the effects quality is quite important.

You’d have to really love the UI and Fender branding to pick this over a quad cortex (which is the same price in the US). It’s a fair bit cheaper here in Australia which is nice. At the same time anyone who has it in their hands probably wouldn’t complain. It’s great, it’s just pricey and has a lot of room to improve compared to the other boys out there. Almost inevitable with any new unit

That unit is super large. Needs a smaller form factor. Also the tones sounds kind of flat and fizzy to me, so I’d put it below the Fractals and Quad Cortex. Not that it’s bad, but at that price point I’d probably go with a different modeler.

Good video mate. I have an Axe fx 3 and have been thinking like you for a while. I find I spend more time mucking around trying to get a good sound that I like and most times using a tone that doesn’t sound and feel right instead of playing and I’m not talking about deep diving. Also I find the community to be cult like as you have seen in these comments. What keeps me with it is the latency with amp sims and feel. I don’t play live anymore so just record. On the perfect thing, for the price, especially here in Australia I wouldn’t say perfect. You see all the pros that use it always seem to have cooper carter or someone dialing it in.
@ampspedalspickups

Yeah, all the tech is impressive and I genuinely think fractal has the most accurate modelling with absolutely everything you could ever want, but something about the warts and all approach means it can take more time to get stuff going… and if you try and do things directly on the unit then yikes. I’ve been watching some vids on the quad cortex and tonemaster pro and they’re dead easy to dial in. I’m certain the modelling is nowhere near as good as fractal but if it gets you going in no time and sounds good enough then there’s enough merit there…. And yeah the fractal pricing in Australia is crazy

Moddellers may sound ok in all these videos.. but they dont FEEL good. Yesterday I bought the Boss GX100. What a mistake that was, the thing sounded absolutely horrible. I sent it back after 5 minutes. Every single modeller effects unit I've ever bought and tried sounded synthetic, artificial and lifeless, I returned them all. The tones were scooped with no mids or lows and had absolutely zero warmth or any organic feel to them. They may sound wonderful on fake KZfaq but when you're in the same room as one playing it they are utterly horrid, lifeless and sterile. As soon as I disconnected all that garbage and plug my Telecaster direct into my Fender Princeton Hand Wired the sound came a life again, you don't just hear it with your ears, you feel it right in your body and soul. No modeller I've ever tried comes anywhere even close to this.

You certainly got the trick to make all the amp sims sound awesome in your videos. Can you please make a video showing everything from your computer configuration, your audio interface, gain knob on interface and how to connect all the gear just the way you do? Not a bad idea! Any amp sims you own or want to see?
@ratedrsuperstarthega

@@ampspedalspickups I own (wink wink) pretty much all the plugins, haha. Maybe try with ML sound AMPED, STL plugins, TH-U, Amplitube, Tonocracy, Mercuriall etc and if you'd like to add anything more. Reason I didn't mention specifics is because I'm not aware (yet) about which plugins you own or will be possible for you. Therefore I just gave the manufacturers names assuming you might be owning some or the other plugins from them. Basically, I need crunch/rhythm/high gain sounds. I think making a video showing the very very basics like, taking a guitar cable, plugging it into your interface, showing where you set your input gain, high-z input, connecting interface to computer, specs of computer like processor + ram configuration, then starting the DAW, routing, buffer size, sample size settings, loading the plugins, setting the input gain and also if you use any trim plugins before the amp sim. I think when Ed S's' video came, you made a video explaining the input gain. So in my opinion you have really understood what Ed meant. Therefore you're the only youtuber yet that I'm asking to make this video. Also the sounds that you are getting from all these plugins in your videos is simply what I desire to achieve. I'm sure many people out there will benefit from the video if you get time to make it. Looking forward to it. Thanks for everything my friend.

Hi, I have RME Babyface Pro FS interface. There's a setting on it which says +4db or -10db. Which do you think must be selected for guitar input? I am plugging my guitar into the side of the interface which says input 3. And I keep the gain knob on the Totalmix software to 0. And thanks for making this great video. If possible, please upgrade that google sheet as more and more info is released/known from more amp sim companies. Would be great.
@ampspedalspickups
@ampspedalspickups 24 күн бұрын
Just had a look at the manual Maximum input level @+4 dBu, Gain 0 dB: +13 dBu At the +4 setting on 0 gain you'll have 13dbu of headroom so it's exactly like mine (which says +13dbu). So yeah just follow the spreadsheet for RME and you're good to go! And yeah the line3/4 inputs are the "instrument" ones there. Forgot to say that what makes them instrument is they have the proper instrument impedance. If you use a line level it'll have a different/lower impedence and it'll be a darker sound, the higher the impedence the brighter it is generally. Either way Input3 is the way to go!

While playing SVT model, says he wants "that basic, classic bass tone... the punk tone, the rock tone, the metal tone" ...plays several other captures, tweaks absolutely NO settings... comments he's found "nothing unique just yet" because he needs something with "a bit more distortion or saturation." Really, man?!?! The SVT with 8-tens CREATED that saturated bass sound!! Any other amp that's going for that sound is just emulating the fridge. Pull up the gain if you want more saturation... tweak the EQ... If you want "punk, rock, metal", the SVT is what will give it to you! Geddy Lee, Chris Squires, Flea, Les Claypool, Pino Palladino, Tim Commerford from Rage Against The Machine, Jason Newstead from Mettalica, Rex Brown from Pantera, Ben Shepherd from Soundgarden, Sergio Vega from The Deftones, Rick Savage from Def Leppard, Adam Yauch from Beastie Boys... the list goes on....

I’m well versed in the topic I’ve got two videos about setting levels. Everything here was reamped at the same level and the other 3 can handle this gain and Tonex can’t. I’ve tried various specs and it’s all different versions of the same issue. It’s just a different version of the tech compared to the other 3 and the results are pretty different. If I tamed the gain down then Tonex would handle it a lot better

You can get awesome results with any of these including ToneX (for mid gain). But each require a different process and level matching is difficult in some of them. So in my opinion, the process is what makes most difference. As a plugin Tonocracy is certainly the simplest and most productive. NAM is my preferred choice for many reasons.. But I like what I can do with the little ToneX One pedal. By the way, I got quite decent results with ToneX but not consistently...

Yeah I've had some "ok" hits with ToneX, tends to be when I lower the gain down. Like even if I profile the same thing a few times it can be hit and miss. I'll be doing a video on "what I want to see from NAM" soon and the capturing side of things will be a lot of what we see from Tonocracy... Tonocracy gets a lot of things wrong (infant software so it gets a pass), but the one thing it does really well is the capturing side.

I mainly use dialled in tones with a theme like metal or punk, for example. Not those packs containing every gain stage of an amp and the eq on zero.
