If we are talking your "Minimum safe distance over 60klm/hr is 1.5 mtrs on this narrow (1 lane) roadway." then it is not legal as over 25kph.

Maybe move over.....🤷‍♀️ I mean he could have waited, but to give a cyclist 1 mtr of room, means the cyclist should be keeping left on the road too.......... the fact that you then hit their car and flipped them the finger is just poor form, its not like hes going to run you down, then reverse onto you.........

The 1.5m rule is great. I was pushed off the road in Brisbane when I moved there, before the rule came in, and thankfully I had the right tire pressure. Still blew the back tyre but the rim was saved. Those rims were $350 each and because I just moved I had no insurance. I was relieved that I only had to buy another $115 tyre instead but it was a pain to walk the 6km to the bike shop.

for years, we took the attitude "get off the road and let cars past" when we were children there never was an issue with morons in lycra in gangs riding in phalanxes of 3x20, blocking main roads. we never got struck by cars because even as eight year olds, we knew to KEEP OFF THE ROAD AND GIVE WAY TO EVERYONE. ESPECIALLY ON NARROW, SINGLE, ONE WAY LANES WITH RAILS AND MEDIANS. show some respect and you might earn some.

He was quite happy riding right next to edge of the road till the ute appeared. As soon as it did, his bike magically expanded to the width of the lane, and he needed to be in the center cutting off the car, but returning to normal size just before the bridge. Was what he did legal? Technically yes, but he should have moved over as he passed the side street so the car could pass. Was it a dick move cause he wanted to prove a point? Absolutely. Respect is a two way street, and it must be earned. Too many cyclist, and motorists (drivers and riders) forget this, then get butt hurt when they aren't given any.
@veroth_1289
@veroth_1289 2 күн бұрын
That side street is actually a freeway on ramp, if a cyclist has to move out of the lane for you to pass you shouldn't be passing there. If the cyclist moves out of the lane then they have to move back into the lane possibly with more cars behind that one which is even more dangerous.

I have been riding motorcycles on the road for 57years - have not been involved in an accident for fifty years. If I rode as I am entitled to, I would have been dead, decades ago. It may not have been my fault, I may have been in the right, but I would have been just as dead.

@mrmonsoon0001 2 күн бұрын
The law also states that you should keep to the left of the carriageway. The word "share" implies responsibility on both parts. Cyclists typically but not all, seem to be of the opinion that others need to fulfil their legal obligations but not them. Ultimately a car has a lot more mass....
@1960Wheelz
@1960Wheelz Күн бұрын
In this case, the lane was not wide enough for the ute to pass while keeping the minimum distance from the bike. Cyclists are recommended in that situation to 'take the lane' as it reduces the chance that someone will believe they have enough room, if they just push the bike over a few more feet..... oops.

Personally I wouldn't be riding a push bike (ebike or not) in a 70 KPH zone where there is only 1 lane and a concrete divider. Hitting his car with your hand is just asking for it. I've had crazies chase me on my motorcycle for just glancing at them. They were all over the road (playing with their phone) and I wasn't sure if it was safe to pass in the 2nd lane as they kept steering into it. If that can happen just from looking at them for 1 second, imagine what can happen when hitting the car with your hand and not having the power to get out of there.

Ozscquads, this happened in VIC so can’t comment on their policy, but if you’re ever driving in NSW please note a cyclist has the legal right to be in the middle of a traffic lane when using a bicycle lane (if there is one) is impractical or riding to the left isn’t safe (eg, crumbling edges, potholes, loose gravel, drain grates, risk of being ‘doored’ by a person alighting a parked vehicle, etc.), or they need to turn right at an intersection, or (as in the case of this video) the cyclist is ‘taking the lane’ to ensure their safety by preventing an illegal close pass by a motorist.

I have been riding since the late 1980's and have always riden within 1m from parked cars and gutters. This gives cars space to go around you. I have never had an issue with vehicles on the road while riding this way. This bike rider is being foolish by being in the middle of the road. Also some roads are not meant for bikes ie anything 70 or over is unsafe due to the speed difference.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I like to ride, but that's not a safe place to ride a bicycle up a hill in a 70kmph single lane. Reg 125 may apply for holding up traffic going <30kmph in a 70kmph zone. Doesn't excuse the impatient ute driver putting his life at risk over being held up for a minute or two. Both of them aren't the brightest, ute driver is worse.
@veroth_1289

Its a highway overpass there is no other way past the highway on that side of town, the road is not very long he would have had to wait an extra 20 seconds max to pass safely.
@markboscawen8330
@markboscawen8330 2 күн бұрын
In NSW motorists must allow riders a full lane “Bicycle riders … have the right to ride on the road. This includes riding in the middle of a lane. …Be prepared to slow down and give them room to ride away from the kerb.” “If drivers cannot pass a cyclist safely, they should slow down and wait until it is safe to do so.” Quotes from NSW.gov.au. In the circumstance where a cyclist has the need to ride in the middle of a lane & is travelling at reasonable speed for a bicycle, then they can’t be sanctioned for holding up traffic. Even if that is doing far less than 30KmH in a 70 zone. Though yes, a cyclist should return to the riding as far left as possible once that need no longer applies. Which is exactly what the cyclist did in the video.

This is the problem with new rules that dont accomodate existing infrastructure. If cyclist is .5m off gutter and car needs to be 1.5m from rider then the bike can use what roadspace it needs in the narrow road section because regardless the vehicle must wait for rider to exit narrow road section

Why is that a problem? If there isn’t a legal opportunity for a vehicle to give correct stand-off distance because of the width of the road it’s irrelevant where the cyclist is in the lane as passing is not permitted & the motorist has to hang back regardless.

In the video, the rider looks like they did not or were not as left as they could be, it's hard to tell when watching a cam but IF this is true then the rider is wrong (I'll wait for the bike riders to comment 🙂), later in the video it looks like the rider then moves more to the middle of the road and didn't move left until the bridge. IF this is all true then the rider did not provide enough space to other vehicles and again IF true, doing this doesn't allow the other vehicles to prove space to the rider.
