Was the Asat bass the last production G&L bass that Leo Fender designed?

You can’t really compare Both Basses because the Squier has roundwound strings on and the fender has flatwounds on. With different Type of strings the comparison is misleading - sorry.

The Jackson wins by a landslide

I have a left handed one. It seems to have enough woody tone to get a violin bass sound, yet also be a p bass. I have flat wounds on mine. I think flats sound best on this bass. My tuners are working good and pretty smooth.

That thing sounds really good I would like to hear it with the master volume all the way up to hear how clean it sounds, maybe the gang on three or four turn it up until it starts sounding dirty, I have a 1 12 250 max peavey combo when I turn it up so loud it starts getting distorted sounding I like a clean sound myself

Very close! Almost sounds like the fender pup’s are a tiny bit too low-which can have a huge impact on the sounds.

I’m learning about basses and Leo sold fender in the 50s and founded G&L so on principal I’m leaning toward G&L but that p bass I like the sound of.

Bottom line of these Squire etc., guitars is in N.America they could not produce instruments of this quality for that price so why all the corporate dictation ? You guys sound like politicians

I just got the 1x10 combo but im not sure its loud enough . Do you reccomend getting the 1x10 cab or 2x8 cab . Also would it be 400 watts if i get a 1x10 cab or just 2 200 watt speakers . Im new to the ohm thing

Just purchased a 4003 S fireglow , played it with the band last night for the first time , took a bit of tweaking with the amp to get the desired tone , requires a bit more power for volume than my precision but it was pretty epic sounding, the E string was thunderous with the A and D a bit weaker , going to mess around with the pickup height a bit on the bridge and try and even that out . The build quality is superb and the action is very low enabling fast runs. Now I just have to take that silly horseshoe thing off.

That Fender sounds a bit dead compared to the Squier. Older dead strings maybe? I'd like to hear them both again with the same fresh strings before coming to a conclusion.

Nice review. I just recently bought the same exact bass as that one. As a teenager I remember seeing all the great musicians who played these basses and always wanted one. Thanks to a great sale I now have one. The Korean build quality on these is exceptional with great attention to detail. I absolutely love the sound of the back pickup. It is very grindy and punchy. Also, has a nice burp when tone is dialed in correctly. I was considering a set of flats but I like the grind off the back pickup with roundwound strings so much that I may decide to just keep rounds on there. Added benefit of an included high quality hardshell case.

The thing that stand out is that the Jackson sounds louder because of the preamp. That's about it. If they were played at the same volume, I think the richness of the Rick would be more evident.

Low sounds best on dingwall, but I thought Ibanez sounds way better than standard 34. And I like the overall package of the Ibanez. But definitely getting a dingwall if I resinate with the Ibanez. I think both have a place.

I have a forte HP (1200 watt big brother to regular forte D). I have it hooked up to a bergantino HGN 4x10 (only 43 lbs, neutral and direct). I added my Agular GS 2x12 (ported and colored). Together they give a really nice sound. the HGN sounds good by itself, but the Aguilar GS cab needs some help. A bit muddy by itself. The drive circuit allows you to load a number of different amp emulators with drive, OD and Fuzz options. I use the Modern Vintage and put the drive know to close to 2 and it sounds like a really nice tube amp without the drive kicking in yet. So can do super natural (what the bass sounds like) and the warmer tube sound with a foot switch. The new version 2 have higher headroom, but I have the original. The Forte HP is bigger sounding and have a few more features than the regular Forte D.

Thank you for mentioning that players like Jack and Phil were using highly customized versions. Basses like the Starfire and Jack's Epiphone are beautiful looking of course. I always doubted that they played stock basses on tour. I'd love to find one of the customized basses actually. Anyway ... like you have read from others, great review and yes ... all bass reviews should be like this one.
