Great record and difficult to find these days. It is a re-issue from the late 1930s or 1940s. The original 78 issue is extremely difficult to find in "the wild", having been recorded in the depths of the Depression. I always love to see any Jimmie Rodgers 78.

. The Talking Machine is a Victor Royal (R) produced between 1902-1904, it was lowest priced Victor Talking available at that time.

The piano player in me can't help but admire James P. here. While Ethel sings, he gives her the contrapunt and support like a good accompanist should, but without ever taking the easy route. In fact his accompanying in this song is, by any measure, superlative Stride playing in itself! And then he takes the solo and shreds it like anything. What a beast.

The story goes that Jolson couldn’t or wouldn’t be still while doing recordings. He would have had to sing directly into a horn like this to make the recording. He was so used to shimmying around to music that someone’s coat literally had to be found to put Jolson’s arms into and button it backwards over a chair to make him be still while he sang. Good thing that they did-and we have this first recording from Jolie to enjoy. Thank you for uploading!

Worth a look, British guitarist analyses Jimmy Roger’s live in 1929 its Fil from Wings of Pegasus, he has analysed lots of different artists , although his band is a rock band, he has covered many country and bluegrass artists ☘️🇮🇪☘️

The condition of this record is amazing. I don't see scratches. It has a high gloss. The sound is clear. Any 78s I've seen are scratched and look more dull gray than glossy black. I'm more of a Cohan fan. Al Jolson always gives me the creeps. This song sounds like it should be in Kubrick's The Shining.

Where on earth did you find that crystal clear Jimmie Rodgers record? His last Blue Yodel is still as clear as the first. All the tongue and cheek, all the lies, and yodel.

They need to make a laser reader to play these cylinders instead of a mechanical stylus - to avoid further wear in the future. It would be easy to do, and the museums would then have the recordings forever.

Phew. I just pieced a gramophone I picked up at auction - back together again. I’ve always seen VICTROLAS - and figured this was another one. Nope. It’s a GARRARD no. 20 motor inside an ornate wooden cabinet with a big tin horn. Never seen anything like it - and it had me scrambling for info. She’s back together now, and playing nicely - although how the whole shebang is just suspended below the turntable by a couple of screws…? Go figure. Love the Billy Murray - thanks for the treat.

the Reproducer plays and sounds just fine. it was designed to play the earlier 4 minute Wax Cyinders and not Blue Amberols. that is why the Blue Amberol does not sound that great using an M Reproducer.
