VERY good film; I love the coal fired Southern Atlantic (although it is a pity that it is not controlled manually).

Nice video and the track is absolutely superb, but I was really looking forward to seeing was a brace of Gauge 3 live steam (coal or meths fired) or “live diesel” locomotives. One would expect that of a Gauge three meeting. However, most of the video concentrated on electric locomotives. Is gauge 3 a bit like N or 00 gauge but outside and bigger? The presentation of motive power is a little bit disappointing don’t you agree?

@@peterdean8009 Not necessarily - 483007 is currently indoors at the IOWSR where it’s being kept in pristine condition with a move to eventually have it run again, while 483006 and 008 are going to the mainland where they’ll eventually run on the Epping Ongar Railway. It’s sad to see them leave the mainline, but their time had come - by the time the announcement that they were to be replaced by the ‘new’(ish!) D78-derived Class 484 EMUs, it was announced a few days earlier that there were only enough spares to service one of the fleet were there to be a breakdown!

Matt is right, the LSWR engine is a D15 and not a T9. In LSWR livery it should be paired with an eight-wheeled water-cart tender. The Southern Railway equipped this class with six-wheeled tenders shortly after the grouping. Here, No 469 is being expertly fired and driven by its co-owner J.W. Smith.

Life on The Channel Islands only railway line looks bliss and wonderful. Will one day pay a visit and take a ride on those lovely old former London Underground cars.
@Viper-CT3 жыл бұрын
Kind of late for that, the Isle of Wight`s "Island Line" used to run old 1938 tube stock, but that all ceased in early 2021 when the 1938s where permanently suspended from the line due to impracticalities and a not so easy manufacture of spare parts, as well as the units failing ALOT! and thus come August to October you might see the newly refurbished D78 stock trundling up and down the line, the D78 stock used to run on the District Line as "Sub-surface Stock" when in 2017 they where replaced by the FAR superior S stock. Keep in mind! units 006 and 008 1938 stocks are to be transported to The "Epping to Ongar" steam railway for preservation, whilst unit 007 will remain on the Isle of Wight, at the preserved steam line. The 1938 stock after introduced to "mainline service" in 1987 where re-classified as class 483 units, the D78 stock NOW is classified as the class 484. I like your enthusiasm for the LU stock, and I'm sure we ALL hope to see the old units live out their retirement years in preservation. AKA I would've proffered either the 1972 stock or the 1973 stock on the Isle of Wight, but the D stock is good enough for me. If you wish to see the 1938 stock without leaving the comfort of your home, I personally recommend that you get "Train Sim World 2" as this game features the 1938 stock in excruciating detail! (Keep in mind that the Isle of Wight comes separately from the main game and a total comes up to £44.98, Purchase at your own Peral!)
@davidnm213 жыл бұрын
@@Viper-CT Thanks. I knew about the new stock for the IOW and I am pleased to hear that the old 1938 stock will have a new home to go to. These "old timers" deserve recognition in the railway preservation world. I don't have a particular interest in PC games but thanks for the info.

They should get a decommissioned Class 142 Pacer. At least that might be able to move a little quicker & not need a shunter.
@al66class594 жыл бұрын
The cost of transporting a pacer to Alderney probably makes it unviable, plus the fact they’d need to build taller platforms as pacers’ doors are higher off the ground than the 59 stock. Not sure how efficient the shunter is for fuel, but pacers probably get through a fair amount of it each day.
