ford (everest) claims 200,000KM ATF. do not fall for this scam. my dad lets me use his prev gen ford everest 3.2 after he upgraded to the latest model so i’m in charge of keeping track of the maintenance schedule of the car. did a bit of research and found ford’s PMS online and it says that ATF is to be changed every 200,000km and that didnt sound right to me. did more research and found that every other reliable car brand and mechanic advice always states 60,000-80,000 or every 2 years. this alarmed me because im already at 194k KM so i went to a former ford mechanic who owns his own shop to have my ATF checked. it was darker than black paint. for the first time in almost 9 years and 194,000KMs, the ATF was replaced (not flushed). shifts felt smoother and the overall drive felt a lot better than it did before. the former ford mechanic recommends changing ATF every 60,000km. forgot to ask him about his opinion on ford’s 200,000km claim. spoke to my dad about what i found and advised him to change his ATF every 2 years (because he doesnt reach 60,000kms in 2 years) to maintain the smooth shifts of his newer everest. told him that these maintenance intervals given by the manufacturers are scams to 1. make you think that you can save more because of the longer maintenance intervals and 2. have them do little maintenance during the duration of your car’s warranty lesson: keep tour cars maintained people! maintenance will vary for every car and driving habit but there will always be a point where its too early (2,000km) and too late (200,000km)
