We don't manage the forests/access and make people evacuate their property during fires. It's clearly a mistake in the woods not to build and landscape in a way that can sustain 50/100 year events and I wouldn't want to see the same behavior repeated in a arboretum city like Missoula. Ironically if we landscaped to reduce threats from falling trees in extreme wind/drought events we run the risk of overexposing the area leaving it vulnerable to new erosion, less water retention, less mycorrhizal interchange. Houses should be built to deflect falling trees or landscaped to reduce the risk. We could even transition to more vines, shrubs and green roofs/walls. But MT contractors only know how to build empty fields and metal sheds and are 100 years removed from the kinds of planning that made Missoula a garden city in the first place.

So happy to read this. 61 years old and went vegetarian in 2006 and vegan last year. I am in better shape than when I was an athlete in HS and College. And it resonates with my heart. Fun to experiment with new recipes. Love Indian food and so much of it is vegetarian and it is so easy to convert to vegan. Just made a massive vegetable curry with lentils. So much healthy protein and deliciousness. God bless these boys and God bless the innocent animals!
