And you will never see any writing of this caliber on any of the present day shows.

I saw this video before I watched DS9 myself, and in #5, I thought Major Kira was just some passing ensign or something. Makes the scene a lot funnier when you think Sisko gave that rant to the closest crew member he could find 😂😂

IMO DS9 was the gem in the era after TOS. The writers were absolutely incredible in building the characters and creating interaction between them. I've always felt that this was due to the fact that all of the characters are stuck in one spot in space on a station that doesn't go anywhere. Unlike a starship that travels around where writers can create different stories in different places every week, in DS9 they have to make it where people of all different types of races get along with each other. Sometimes they get along good and sometimes they don't.

Sisko doesn't bluff! He was exactly the type of tough commander that was needed to handle this threat. War crimes or Shortening and stopping a war? That is a fine line.... Occasionally it gets crossed. In a war, sometimes the end justifies the need.

Gul Dukat is one of my favorite villains/characters ever. He was a huge dick, yet his goals and motives made sense, and he had undeniable charisma. And his eventual descent into insanity was well-written and entertaining. He was weirdly likable to me.

Sisko is a shit captain and Eddington was right. What kind of moron watches a scene of a guy ordering the annihilation of a planet and thinks this is what makes a good starfleet captain. Just pathetic.

At least in the late 90s we had a realistic views of those we called hereos...but, it was fraught with all that came w/ valor or/duty. Seems even more corrupted now. As a Navy vet, don't know what to make of it...

Everyone notes that Worf, a Klingon, pauses. But I think its just as notable that Kira, a Bajoran resistance fighter does too. This is the kind of absolute play that a rebel understands. She even later says to Damar that you can't shy away from collateral damage because the minute you do, they start using civilians as human shields. The enlightened star fleet officer is so locked in to hunt down the traitor, that a Klingon Warrior and a Bajoran rebel think he is probably going to far. And they follow the orders anyway. The mall in space in space is a dead mall like all the rest.

What's great is that neither of their points of view are stupid or unreasonable. There is no clear villain here, these are two decent men actually trying to do the right thing. The show doesn't try to dictate who is right or wrong, it's left to the viewer. This is real Star Trek.

For all of the great storytelling provided by the series, the creators also take from what they deliver. What do I mean by this? The underlying/unstated sentiment is "look what happens to lofty Star Trek ideals when a you-know-what is given leadership in Starfleet". I know I am going to get major grief for this observation, but so be it; that's how I honestly feel, even with Sisko being my favorite captain by far.
