SVBs love zucchini and most squash. They don't usually attack cucumber or cantaloupe, but they can. I live in Texas where we have not just one round of the SVB, but three. I just had to rip out my buttercup winter squash because of the SVB. All 6 plants were attacked. And the butternut winter squash is supposedly SVB resistant. They are the devil's spawn.

The city of Chicago and “pests” are rare? The entire area is full of pests
@NaturallyNoni4 күн бұрын
If you mean rodents, yes. But I've rarely had a problem with insect pests in my garden. This is my 5th year with one
@jennlyn14324 күн бұрын
I live in MA and I’m having the same problem. I removed 7 of them from the vines and even stuck toothpicks in some other spots I suspected there is one. The one vine that had a small pumpkin is dying and the other is struggling but still trying. Sorry for your pumpkin loss. It’s so disappointing

I would be bummed too. I’m not growing pumpkins but I planted a lot of zucchini and some cantaloupes. I’ll have to inspect them tomorrow.

Can you do this with any of the seedy looking shoots? I have 8 plants and 3 silks popping out. I can't tell the females from males or when it's time to do this. I don't "see" pollen tho. Only wheaty looking seedy thingies
@NaturallyNoni12 күн бұрын
Yes the seedy looking shoots are the "males" and the silks are the "females"

@NaturallyNoni I just finished Girl in the leaves, it's a murder story based on a true story. I typically go for fantasy books like Harry Potter, but it happened in Ohio, so I thought I'd read it. It was interesting for sure.
