What I always find odd is that, very obviously, Bob Dylan cribbed this melody for his own "Bob Dylan's Dream." But while this is about a lost ship in the great unknown North, Dylan's is a seemingly ridiculous song about a 20-something author wishing, wishing, wishing in vain that he could return to his younger 20-something self and find the friends he's lost touch with. Yet Dylan's youngster tale of sorrow is more compelling by far, for me, than this dirge about lost Franklin + crew.

I was in a band that covered this song. It's ok, and for Randy Newman that's better than what a lot of other songwriters were doing at the time. But personally, I'll take any song on Good Old Boys over this particular tune.

What an exquisite version of this song. Few people like Elvis could cover this as well.

The band, the producer, they engineer: they must have been drunk and high when this song was recorded. The guitar just doesn't belong. The rhythm is awful. The only good things are Dr. John and the horns. Yet I love this song.

So deeply sad...bewate of mature husbands who, be they musical geniuses, crave young girls... and break each committment they make. The responsibility is first of all theirs to protect their marriage, and to avoid causing tremendous pain to their devoted wives.

I remember back in 1986 I played this song to my girlfriend, and she said it was sexist, because of the 'bitch dog in heat' lyric. And then she fucked my brains out.

Shirley It's quite exciting to be sleeping here in this new room Shirley You're my reason to get out of bed before noon Shirley You know when we sat out on the fire escape talking Shirley What did you say about running before we were walking Sometimes when we're as close as this It's like we're in a dream How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team Shirley Your sexual politics have left me all of a muddle Shirley We are joined in the ideological cuddle I'm celebrating my love for you With a pint of beer and a new tattoo And if you haven't noticed yet I'm more impressionable when my cement is wet Politics and pregnancy Are debated as we empty our glasses And how I love those evening classes Shirley You really know how to make a young man angry Shirley Can we get through the night without mentioning family The people from your church agree It's not much of a career Trying the handles of parked cars Whoops, there goes another year Whoops, there goes another pint of beer Here we are in our summer years Living on icecream and chocolate kisses Would the leaves fall from the trees If I was your old man and you were my missus Shirley Give my greetings to the new brunette Give my greetings to the new brunette Give my greetings to the new brunette

James Brown walks into a bar. The bartender asks: "What can I get you?" and James Brown replies: "AAAAugh glass of humbughagh..." Confused, the bartender asks: "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" and James Brown goes: "YEAAAAH! A glass of humbughagh, glass of humbughagh, glass of humbughagh, glass of humbughagh..."

"A long ago in the forties, Dizzy and Bird gave us this song, It was called a Night in Tunisia, and the melody still lingers on. It was new and very strange, blew the squares right of the stage, few could play along and the melody still lingers on. Max and Miles to name just two, together they grew, the music was young and strong and melody still lingered on They paved the way for generations from Coltrane to Steve, no one can stop the winds of change without them where would we be, The Duke and the Prez were there before, the past you can't ignore, the torch is lit, we'll keep the flame and the Melody remains the same" Chaka Khan feat. Dizzy Gillespie 1982

watching a Johnny Carson rerun. ( im guessing 1979) Tony Curtis was a guest and he mentioned this song and said it was the most beautiful song ever. So naturally 45 years later I had to look it up on KZfaq..... .
