When Momma made breakfast food for dinner it was a cause of celebration! Momma made great food at every meal but boy howdy real buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy in the evening! Have mercy. Onset is like that. Always a welcome surprise when the Maids serve up an instrumental. An epic instrumental at that!

One of the greatest composition, by the Maids, in rock history. Sabbath, Yes and EVH blended together? What other element did you find? So cool. What a great composer Kanami is.

I love watching your reactions, it's just priceless. This was the first song of Band Maid that I watched/heard and I was shocked almost into a mild stroke, lol. I'm 77 and have been following rock since the late 1950's, and Band Maid has become the top of the hard rock hill for me. Especially in their instrumentals, which has been a lost art in American music. I've always been a huge fan of instrumentals because when I was growing up, most rock bands started the performances and sets with an instrumental to set the tone. Bands like The Ventures, Surfaris, The Tornados, The Rip Chords and others in the US and The Shadows in England were go-to groups for me. And The Ventures, after they first went to Japan in 1961 or 1962, became a huge hit, with Ventures tribute bands still active there today. But Band Maid has taken it to another level. Kanami has composed such complex and artistic instrumentals where you can actually hear the instruments performing the vocal parts. And the excellent musicianship of the group is the icing on the cake. It's like they are a hive mind where everyone knows what everyone else is going to do. I'm surprised that you haven't gotten to this sooner. I don't recall if you have reacted to it yet, but "From Now On" is yet another out-of-this-world instrumental composition that has to be heard to be believed. It is a bit heavier than "Onset" but is clearly and epic song. I've heard the band play both "Onset" and "From Now On" live and it is just as good as you might imagine.

I completely agree. I'm a little younger than you (almost 60) and I'd been away from rock since the 80s. But when I met them, I fell in love with their high level of musicality, and as I learned about the band's history and their personalities, BAND-MAID has taken over most of my musical space. I sometimes listen to old music, but now that I know BAND-MAID, no matter what music I listen to, I can't be satisfied. I don't think there will ever be a band that surpasses them in my lifetime. The Ventures have performed many shows in Japan from the 60s to the present, and have treasured their deep connection with Japan. They loved Japanese culture and history, deeply understood Japanese sentiment, and created many hit songs. I think KANAMI's singing-like guitar solo may not be a direct result, but it may also be influenced by the Ventures.

@@kan5372 There is even more excellent talent in Japan. There is a new group called NEK! who have a very nice sound and are not typical. And Li-sa-X has formed a new band named KOIAI that is outstanding, which you would expect with Li-sa-X and Hazuki involved, lol. And South Korea has added to the pot with "Rolling Quartz", who have enjoyed a lot of adulation from the US and Europe. They are fire ! There was also another K-Rock group that has since disbanded named DIH and they have quite a bit of their older music on YT that is excellent to listen to.

Even if Kanami certainly could, she doesn't dance the night away, she tapps through the whole night and I just never get tired of listening to her doing so while being accompanied by the others. 🔥🤘🏻 Yes, they have technically better instrumentals now, but Onset will always hold a place of honor for me, if only because it's the first 'public and official' of its kind, and because every one of them, without exception(!), shows why they are irreplaceable to the sound of Band-Maid. _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Do you guys hear some UFO in this song? Lights Out in London? I'm hearing Tony Iomi, Michael Schenker, the Edge and Eddie van Halen in Kanami's playing in this song, all pulled together into a crazy cohesive combination.

I want you to know there is an opinion about The Warning expressed as reply to me that I do not adhere to. I might say something is not the type of music I care for, but I won't state negative personal opinions about a band's character unless it' from a personal experience. Personal tastes are one thing but personal attacks are totally something else.

These instrumental songs are composed specifically to give the lead singer a vocal break during shows without leaving the audience hanging, not to show off. They usually do a instrumental, a Miku lead song and Omajinai time(Magic Spell Time, where Miku interacts with the audience casting a spell on them to enjoy the music more and is a hold over from Miku's time as a Maid working in Maid Cafes before forming Band-Maid). Saiki has had throat surgery and now doesn't really need the break and even participates sometimes. I agree, close your eyes and just listen and you won't care what these ladies are wearing!

Kanami did the singing on this one. "Onset" is by far my favorite Band-Maid instrumental. Yes, "From Now On" is awesome, but it has a darker hard rock sound. I feel "Onset" is a beautiful "joyful noise". They take what may be considered noodling around on the guitars to a full-blown rock classic instrumental.

They are SO good! I am a huge fan of The Warning and Band-Maid. I hope the next time they tour the USA, they have a different sound guy. I saw The Warning last year, then 2 days later I saw Band-Maid in the same venue. Akane's kick drum was 10 times louder than anything else in the band and drowned out everything else. I have never been so disappointed in a live show in my life. I was SO excited to see B-M live for the first time, and in a fairly small venue (1000 capacity maybe 70% full) and the sound guy ruined the whole thing. The Warning, in the same venue, the sound was <chef's kiss> Amazing! I hope at some point they will tour the US/Mexico together so I can see them both together!
