Great video, I recently put a down payment on new 2023 CRF300L, I plan on doing this and packing the steering bearings before I even ride it. Is there anything else to check and grease like the wheel bearings, or are they sealed.

What is the brand to those bars?? I just picked an 83 yamaha, and I want to change oit the bullhorn bars for something else
@twist-moto9075 Жыл бұрын
Those are the European style bars. You can find them on most cycle websites. What Yamaha did you get? Xs?
@jdsstegman Жыл бұрын
Did you chamfer to ports and check ring end gap? I have done about 80 of these cheap kits and they are all over the place on ring end gap. And non have the ports chamfer. And then check squish. That too is all over the place. Anywhere from 3mm to 1mm. 1 mm is best.
@twist-moto9075 Жыл бұрын
I did not check the ports, how is that done? But ring gap was within spec. Thanks!

That's a sweet garage! Nice change out! - I put Rental low rise - basically looks like the ones you did- I am running into some slight cabling issues since the last owner had the cafe slammed bars and did all the cabling to match.

Oh yeah that could get annoying, if they’re similar to mine stock cables and wires should work!

Try a can of cheap oven cleaner, an old toothbrush and lots of hot water. Spray it down, let it sit for 5 min, scrub it with the toothbrush and rinse it off. Spray, scrub, rinse, repeat. Just be careful of the fumes.

Can I ask what you did to fix the issue with the PW50 not revving out completely? Did a top end rebuild fix that? I have the same issue with my son's '01PW50. It ran great for my 2 older boys then lost power at WOT all of a sudden....just never hits the powerband like it used to. Trying to get it back in order for my 5yr old son now. I tried the following so far-- cleaned carb, clean petcock, replaced exhaust header and silencer, new spark plug, blocked off oil pump.
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
Yes it did. If that doesn’t fix yours let me know. I’ll try to help you. Cause it could be fueling too
@imastabber26802 жыл бұрын
Try the screw behind your throttle. Open it up all the way. Or just remove it. Could be loose and dialed back on its own
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
That’s true could be something that simple. Can also check where the header bolts to the motor. That gets clogged up and you can’t also remove the plate in there which will open it up.
@MySonsRanimals2 жыл бұрын
I rebuilt the top end, and it definitely improved overall power. I also dropped down to a 65 main jet. I’d say it’s running at about 90% compared to when we got it 7 years ago which is good enough for now. It has good throttle response on the stand but seems to still hesitate slightly before hitting the powerband when my son rides it. I’m thinking about replacing the reeds and clutch springs to see if that helps.
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I am actually doing reeds and fuel mix delete this spring too!
@ym22rr952 жыл бұрын
Hi, just bought one to my son. Its a 2019 model. Have the same sound ( piston slap) as yours had. Do you mean that is OK if there is piston slap or do you recommend to rebuild the top end?
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
If you can’t do it yourself, just rebuild it. It’s cheap and you’ll know you aren’t hurting anything. However you don’t have to
@ym22rr952 жыл бұрын

Check the boot that goes over the top of the spark plug. Had a pw50 once and bought from a guy when it had been raining. Ran fine until hit a puddle then just kept stopping so he sold it to me cheap. Took me ages to find why but constantly through any puddle and would stop. Just a small amount of water was getting onto plug and I guess shorting it out.

I just bought a "cafe'd" 1979 XS1100 Special, and it had the slammed cafe bars - I changed them to 7/8" Renthal ultra low #758 bars - PERFECT - keep in mind if you want to add bar end mirrors, the inside diameter for these aluminum bars are 14MM versus the old steel bars at 17MM.

34 Millimeters ! , how stupid can you get, that equals 1-11/32" you need to learn metric measurement. You just measured CENTIMETERS, which is about 13-3/8" approx.
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
I meant 340 millimeters just misspoke…. It’s tough making videos while trying to work. I measure everything in millimeters from working on suspension so much and still made a mistake lol. Thanks for watching though!
@jagitmax2 жыл бұрын
Just a tip for you, when trying to remove the shocks , with the bike on the center stand, use a long lever under the rear tire and slightly lift to take the weight off the shock, it will easily slide off, and instead of banging the bushing with a hammer, apply a little smear of white lithium grease and squeeze it with a bench vise until its fully inserted in the shock, also apply a little smear of grease on the shock mount stud to lube that as well. And when your finished be sure to wipe away any excess lube that may squeezed out in the lubricated areas. Good luck, your still learning!
@twist-moto90752 жыл бұрын
Thanks yeah if you read what I put on the screen I had a long pry bar under the rear tire, but the 43 year old rubber still put up a fight lol. I also used graphite dry lube spray, should have mentioned that too. Thank you for watching!
