i'll use this space to point out places and things that may be of interest to anyone planning to visit oahu in the future: 1:10 you may be familiar with flower lei but lei are just made up of whatever. there are some made of leaves, some made of shells. this one's made of kukui, the nut from what some know as the candlenut tree. inside is an oily pulp once used for making lamps. its outer shell is very hard and resilient, and can be sanded and polished, making it great for adornment. the flower painted on it resembles hibiscus, which can be red, white, pink, or yellow, the official state flower of hawaii. 1:16 this lei is pretty typical of the ones given at the airport. 1:38 in hawaii we eat rice with just about everything. put gravy on it. that is the way. 2:07 view of ala wai harbor from prince waikiki hotel. the last time i stayed there was in 2002 after my senior prom. two of my friend's friends let a couple bottles fall out of the window and the police came. if you have friends who drink, stay at a hotel with balconies. 2:56 take a moment to enjoy the beautiful maknae 3:00 most of this vlog takes place in waikiki. this is the corner of kalakaua and seaside ave. it's always busy, pedestrians are careless, and the drivers aren't always trustworthy. please stay on the sidewalk and pay attention at all times. also, there was a law passed in hawaii a few years ago prohibiting use of cell phones in crosswalks. do keep that in mind. 3:07 island vintage coffee is super popular for a reason: their acai bowls. i'm not a fan of trendy expensive places, but i can't deny it's really tasty 4:44 씨스타! 5:01 cafe morey's on monssarat ave, just outside waikiki, toward diamond head. imagine how lucky you'd feel if one of the greatest superstars in kpop modeled outside your shop! 5:14 next to morey's are a couple small boutiques. that one was painted pink only recently, and it does tend to attract a lot of instagrammers 5:31 very different part of the island now (diamond head sits low and far in the background). this is maunalua bay beach park in hawaii kai. the canoes are part of the Hui Nalu O Hawaii Canoe Club. one of the many many clubs on the island. outrigger canoe paddling was a way of life and sport in old hawaii, where the canoes were made of dense wood from the Koa tree. they were, to say the least, massively heavy. modern versions are made with fiberglass to cut weight, but are still terribly heavy, and take a dozen people to carry to and from the water. i was part of a team in high school. it was easily the most exhausting sport i've ever been a part of. 7:54 another part of the island, called kahala. upper class neighborhood with an exclusive golf course where the sony open is held. the hotel behind the trees that looks like scaffolding, that's where blackpink stayed the last time they were were here. i don't like this area because it smells. 7:57 see that small dark mountain in the distance? that's near where seohyun was doing the photoshoot at the canoe club 8:00 back at the hotel again. what i like about the prince waikiki is the entrance is away from traffic and has a lot of open space. more so than all the other hotels where it's hectic i enjoyed this vlog very much and am happy to have had seohyun here. i hope she visits again!☺
