I think he’s more revered in Ireland than in England….being in his brother’s shadow might be part of it even though they were both part of that iconic 66’ team. Bobby was a footballer’s footballer while Jack was by his own admission someone who stopped guys from playing football….

Jack Charlton pretty much shaped my life me being born in Bristol England to an Irish dad and German mum instilled in me such pride as an 18 year old of my Irish heritage watching how much it ment to the player's and fans to wear the green jersey I’m in my 50’s now and have travelled the world watching and supporting the Rep of Ireland and Celtic every country we have visited we have left behind nothing but good feelings toward the Irish peoples I remember in the euros in Poland 2012 Roy Keane saying “I don’t know why the fans are singing the team have lost every game and been awful” what you forget mr Keane is It’s not just the players representing there country Thank you big Jack and rip

I was at a certain supermarket in Ashington once. I saw him from afar and then closer. Didn't dare to go straight up to him and say how much I appreciated him managing Ireland and such. I saw, however, that he was already doing a selfie for an youngster and his mom. My moment was gone but I'm sure that he's smiling still from above. Thanks a lot, Jack Charlton, you were a prince!

The Republic of Ireland were England's bogey team while Jack Charlton was the manager of the Republic of Ireland. Starting in 1988. Then the 1990 World Cup, the qualifying games for the European Championships in 1992 and it probably would have been the same outcome in 1995, if the game hadn't been abandoned. I must say that the game between us and the Republic at the 1990 World Cup was one of the worst games that I've ever watched.

Me and a friend were arrested for credit card offences after the Ireland England game in Stuttgart. We were born in England but from irish stock and we have republican values . the police didn't believe we were "Irish" because of our English passports so the first cell we were put into we fired into the other occupants before they'd shut the door. We were then held in an office because every cell in the police station was full of England fans from the previous nights rioting. In the end we were offered a deal to plead guilty recive a six month prison sentence suspended, our cards were destroyed and we were to leave Germany that day. We were also banned from Germany for life. Never even went to court. The police were absolutely confused and a little amused. Thease days we would say that we identify as Irish.... You can't call Ronnie Whelan's goal a fluke, it was an intentional play,' It wasn't the first and won't be the last goal to be scored by a shin.
