Your hair looks the best it could possibly look during a grow out I think. I’m trying to decide how to do mine, and we have a similar pattern and hair type. I may do something similar by lightening the “old hair” as much as I can, but keep it toned through the process.

When you have long hair and want to hold onto it this process takes longer. As you can see it's a long journey that takes you into moments of wonderings and curiosities. If you bleach out the old dye be so careful not to get it into your new grey growth or it will turn yellow too. It's still a process to keep toning it as it washes out but I find I can handle it knowing there is an end to it all. Just find what will work for you ;)

I have long hair, and am just starting to grow out my grays (which are basically white!) I’m nervous about doing too much to my new growth. Was it worth having her process some of your grown out gray? Or did it get so brassy it was just another “problem” to deal with?

I regretted going to the salon and having this done. It's not what I asked for or was promised and assured of in the consultation. I personally would not recommend it because they can just turn and decide to do their own thing. I lost a whole year of growth. It took a long time for the toner to come out because it was so dark. Not what I asked for at all. Just hang in there with the grow out. I felt confident enough I could do a wash out bleach only on the old brown dye part, without touching the new grey. It's good for viewers to see the stages of what can happen and how things can turn bad. Lesson learned. I hope others learn from this. Just hold on and do fun undo's to help get you through the process. ;)

I'm glad this is helpful. As we grow out our natural grey we go through the whole process of wanderings about what to do with our hair after a certain point. It is a challenge to hang in there and when you think of doing something... like what I just did, you can see the whole process. Hang in there. It does get better!

I love your hair and was shook when you were at the salon, I just knew that's not what you were wanting. I am on my journey and am where you were when you went to the salon. You did an amazing job doing it yourself with advice from the beauty supply, great job! I am curious on the up keep since it's been a few months. I've been researching Overtone coloring conditioners. They have pastel, vibrant and extreme, I've been thinking of using all three to give some great depth, but still researching and will probably let it grow out naturally. I just have those moments of impatience and frustration. You are an absolutely beautiful, classy and inspiring woman. I've really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for sharing your journey. Hope to see another update when it all grows out, curious to see, I know it will be absolutely gorgeous!

Yes, let it grow out naturally!! I'm still on the grow out journey, which will be another two years. My hair grows slowly. I've discovered the toner does not stay in as long as I would like. The good news is that it will all eventually be cut out. Thank you for your feedback and kind words. Stay posted another video is coming up. AND hang in there!!

Hello, I am new to growing out my hair cold turkey, and have every intention of keeping it long. I was so happy to find your videos, but this one was tough for me. I was on my morning walk, listening and glancing down here and there. When you began the blending, I was getting anxious, and even said "noooooooooo" out loud, lol. Your authentic hair is stunning, and when I saw the bleach and color creeping up into your perfect new growth, I had a desperate desire to climb through the phone and politely request a pause button. I am so grateful that due to the magic of internet, I got to enjoy the next video where you color-corrected to a good level. It looks lovely. I also enjoy timeless fashion and femininity, and apparently keeping my hair long through this (likely due to length) 5 year transition, is not for the faint of heart. Thank you for all of these videos, and I do hope you continue to post updates. You are the closest I have found to my own style and goals, so they have been a treasure to me. Cynthia

Yikes, sure it’s pretty but this just confirms for me why I won’t trust anyone during this growing out period. I had the experience of being disappointed by my hairdresser the first month when she said she would “help” me transition and then sent me away more blonde than when I went in. Lost all faith and won’t be going back to her even for a trim.

When I used the toner, purple tone, I started with 2 capfuls then eventually went up to 7 capfuls. It took out the yellow tone better and I only applied it to the bleached out parts. I don't run any toner through my new grow out. It's a bit of an experiment to find the right tone and amount to use. Hang in there. The hope is that eventually it will all grow out ;)

Hi, this is Mary again, I responded the other day regarding your hair. I just went back and went to your video where you take your hat off and again IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait Like I mentioned. I keep mine clipped in a claw as it is long like yours, but when I look in the mirror I can see pretty good the grey by my ears and top of my head (more when down) the it is in the back behind my ears but my friend said that he did not see any in the back of my neck hardly at all but some. So I am seeing it soooo much more. I wish I understood the mathematical and color change etc....that goes with it. Have you ever watched Brad Mondo videos where he watches people try to cut, bleach etc..to their hair. I don't appreciate the language he uses, but it is really a hoot if yo want a good laugh at what people do on their own. The sad thing is, I would probably be on there if I tried on my own LOL. You look great I honestly mean that. My hair has really soaked the dark brown up and I tried all the ideas to use to try and get the color off myself So, I am just using different shampoos. I do use a cheap clarifying shampoo and conditioner if I use some mousse to help hold curls after hot rollers. Ok, just wanted to tell you again and I think you will be my inspiration through this journey by going back and watching you take off your hat. LOL very pretty again, you did a wonderful job. God Bless You

I've been considering going this route, but I'm not going to anymore. Two years ago, I was a about ten months in, and my son decided to get married, so I dyed it, grrrr. I'm now at 6 months, and I'll just stay the course. I have natural curly hair, and bleach will just damage it, as curls are dryer anyway. Jack Martin is minimum $3000, so I'll just save the money. This color looks so much more natural. Didn’t like the salon look at all. I am transitioning now for about 11 month. Had salon do what yours did but I wouldnt let her touch my gray area. Dyed my hair dark brown for yrs before I started transitioning. She tried to bleach my hair about 4 times to get to level 9 to add gray toner. Never got it higher than 8. Then she also put steel grey toner on and it was too dark. And my hair started to break off in front. So no more toner or bleach I am in process of getting my hair healthy again. Just letting it grow out now. Glad yours finally worked for you. I like it a lot.
