my god, the puck is video-compressed out of existence half the time. It's quantum hockey. How people ever watched hockey in SD I'll never understand, but then there's this

All you needed was Dave Brown on your team and you didn’t have to worry about any other teams tough guy

These Flyers were one of the dirtiest teams of all time. It’s hilarious to listen to these biased Flyer announcers pretend that they were being treated unfairly by the officials.

Tucker was an insanely dirty player, but this is probably the hardest and cleanest hit of all time. No charging, no extra malicious intent, just a clean, textbook hit the way every hockey hit should be. Kapanen then getting to the bench (barely) so Roenick scores the winner is legendary beyond belief - probably the best game of hockey that will ever be played. The lockout happening just 1 month after this game killed the sport. Imagine how big hockey would now be if there were no lockout, no trapezoid, hockey never left ESPN/ABC, etc. It's fucking infuriating.

Despite the fact that some of these guys won't see ice time in Philly for a while it's going to be a great season. Definitely good to see a few 200 ft players being drafted.

As for attendance not only did they continuously sell out at home every game but when on the road they fill arenas. Oakland was averaging 5,000 to 8,000 per game. Flyers show up and the place is packed.

Phil Esposito in the docu said it best. You need talent to win the cup. And they had the talent." Even being short Dornhoefer and Ashby who was their top defenceman

In the WHA that day, the Houston Aeros defeated the Chicago Cougars 6-2 in Houston to complete a 4-game sweep of the finals for the Avco World Trophy. It was the first championship for Gordie Howe since he helped the Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 1955.

American arenas still didn't have proper lighting for colour television in the 1970s, which was why games there were much darker on TV than games in Canadian arenas.
