The Madone's more aero, the SL8s lighter, so the question is do you struggle on flats or on climbs, if on flats go with the Madone, etc.
@whichwayiszigzag16 сағат бұрын
No, it's expensive and heavy as fuck. It uses DOT fluid that is hard to bleed. Once bled the Braking is crappy. The shifting is not much better than mechanical if you know how to set up cable pulled derailleurs. I have two bikes with Rival and no one wants to buy them for $1,000 CDN. It's absolute shit.

The comparison should be F7 vs. Madone SL. The F7 isn’t even the top Dogma model, and comparing it to the Madone SLR. I would probably buy the Madone because it’s faster than even the Dogma F after test riding both bikes
@CyclingInsiderКүн бұрын
I think it's a fair comparison because both bikes use T900 carbon fiber for frames (Pinarello uses Torayca T900 and Trek has their version of OCLV 900).

Excellent video! I would just add that you get a power meter on the Canyon and not on the Trek. Basically, you get more bike on the Canyon simply because of the wheels, power meter, and crank size for just $100 more. If you were to try to upgrade the Treck to match the Canyon it would be about another $1200 dollars...

For 17g you get superior breaking performance for high speeds, for riders that weigh more than a child and riders that ride in wet conditions or just break often (heat dissipation). 17g. Wow. And you even live and ride in the flats where weight doesn't matter at all (given you ride a common road bike that weighs less than 10 kg). Thanks for sharing that information😄

One thing I’m surprised you didn’t mention. The gear groove on the canyon stem is a potential game changer for a lot of people. It allows you to add the full proper Ergon aero cockpit from the Speedmax to this bike. (Most carbon handlebars don’t even allow you to add cheap aftermarket extensions). I’m currently in the market for a bike but also training for an Ironman. I was considering getting 2 bikes in fact, but now I’m just getting the Aeroad and the Triathlon cockpit, solely because of this feature. It’s definitely worth mentioning.

The big thing between canyon and trek for me is always the warranty. Lifetime warranty is always a big plus for me and the added comfort on the madone is also something that would draw my attention. You also have the chance to go to a bike shop and try to get a deal on a trek while with canyon you pay their price unless it’s on sale
@oliverjacobs85949 күн бұрын
trek madone has always been one of the slowest aero bikes available for the price, and with gen 8 it is almost certain to get significantly slower. Add on top of that a several thousand dollar price increase at the same spec and I would never consider a trek. You could buy 3 canyon aeroad SLX di2 for the price of 1 trek madone SLR, and despite the lower spec they are probably a faster bike.

Nice looking bike, but $5500+ for 105 and 8.2 kg?! No thanks. Compare with Decathlon: Ultegra 7.7 kg bike for about $3150. It may not be as fancy as Scott or Trek, but almost half price and half a kg less can't be ignored. I am sorry for the big traditional brands, but they can't rely solely on the loyalty of their customer base, they need to make more reasonable offers

Interesting analysis. Now that the gen 8 Madone has been released, what do you think? Best of both worlds? A little less aero, a little lighter, even more beautiful? I’m interested in buying the SL5. What do you think?
@CyclingInsider12 күн бұрын
Trek had to do this new Madone Gen 8 because they saw how Specialized did Tarmac SL 8 (and is selling them like crazy). All of these bikes want to be aero and light. But that's not possible. So I think Trek should have gone even more aero on the new Madone, and then release very light Emonda (below 6.8 kg in top built). I would skip Madone SL5, save a bit more money and go for SL6 because you get electronic Shimano di2 groupset.

The SL8 is almost certainly more aero. Tour Magazine tested the previous gen Madone at 207 watts, and the SL8 at 208 watts. In Treks own testing they tested the new Madone using aero bottles against the old Madone using standard round bottles. So with an equal bottle setup the new Madone is less aero than the old one. Which makes it less aero than the SL8. Add in the fact that the new Madone is heavier than the SL8 also. So the Trek is heavier, less aero, more expensive and came out over a year later than the SL8. Bit of a fail on Treks behalf.
@Millicente22 күн бұрын
@@whackachangchangable then the trek is faster. The lower the watts the faster it is since it’s a measure of watts needed to maintain a speed. Unless tour is using watts in a different way
