Great video......I was just thinking about this hike.....as my first ever trip out west.....was glad to find that you had a video....do you think it is too tough for a medium grade backpacker......im used to the Smokies and other Appalachian grade trails but this is definately a level up for me....? Thanks for all of the wonderful videos......I enjoy the scenery but also the equipment clips you sprinkle in....!!!

Thanks for that feedback on the videos. I think you'd be fine on this loop given the experience you mentioned. You could always add an extra day to lessen the daily gain if needed. I really enjoyed this loop, hope you get to experience it. The other loop to consider is the Eastside Loop. It covers my favorite section of the Wonderland. Happy Trails!

@@cascadiahiking Most people start at Timberline Lodge and go clockwise. Watching your Wonderland Trail video it looks like there are bridge crossings over most of the bigger streams but on the Timberline there are none and there are about 10 significant streams you have to cross of which about three of them are a bit sketchy but usually there is a log or thick branches hikers before you have put down. I'm older and I took my time and did it in three nights, four days but most do it in two nights. Have fun!

What size torso size do you use for your Kakwa 40? I'm looking at getting a 55 in ultragrid in size large but I have a 31 waist measurement. I currently use a ULA catalyst with a small hip belt and the belt fits perfectly.

I can't afford this ultra light weight gear its just to expensive and not really durable enough for years of use and needs be replaced and changed at more expense. However, the backpack is very intresting and your gear is clever and allows extend time in the mountains. This video is very, very well done and thanks so much for taking the time to edit this video and putting it to-together a very intresting video all very much appreciated... 👍👍👍

Absolutely fabulous. Very well narrated. Peaceful sounds, majestic scenery. Ahh the sounds of the Chick-a-dees. Decent weather! I always imagine , what it was like many hundreds of years ago. I clearly remember the Carbon River suspension bridge from a hike in 1986. And we climbed down and touched the Glacier. I did the Wonderland Trail with my teenage children many years ago. I miss it so very much. I hope to do it again, before my days end.

17:25 You know when you've been hiking a bit when you recognize the shape of a trail overview before you can read the captions 😆 Considerations for those not wanting to go quite as minimalist as the Durston 40l pack: Osprey Exos. For those not wanting to go as expensive as the Durston pro, the standard Xmid has been great for me (I also use the groundhog stakes and will say Durston has the best customer service of any company I have ever communicated with!). Cheaper than the MSR Pocket Rocket is the BRS3000. I print my paper maps and fold them into a ziplock bag. A lot of my other gear should be upgraded as I continue... my headlamp is a standard Costco-whatever. My poles are old, aluminum and sponge-whatevers. The Nemo Riff 15 was probably overkill, but I use it like a quilt on a closed cell pad (reliability > weight savings for me). All that to say we have to hike our own hikes, and anyone watching gear reviews should take into consideration their own geographic region, bodily needs, comfort preferences, budget, etc.

PLEASE use proper sunscreen. Zinc oxide by itself needs molecular coatings to de clump after an extremely rigorous vibration with a homogenizer to properly spread over your skin and give you proper protection. Just get a preformulated zinc oxide sunscreen like blue lizard 50 spf

Wow! We are amazed at this beauty because it draws us to our Creator, Christ the Lord. Places like this bring us to tears of joy because our spirit longs to praise Christ, Who is worthy of all the glory! Thanks, you're a few inches taller but around the same weight as me. I went with size M for both top and bottom. They fit snug as you would expect. You could prob fit in either a M or L. @cascadiahiking
@cascadiahiking Ай бұрын
I've used so many packs over the years including some of ZPacks earliest CF packs. It's been a longtime since I've used a pack from Zpacks so I can't really give you any good feedback as to their current offerings. I see a lot of their packs on the trail. When I first started ultralight backpacking, there were few choices. Now, there is a lot more lightweight packs that are available. Recently, I've used packs from HMG, ULA, and Durston Gear. They all make really good packs. Right now, I like the Durston Gear packs just a bit more than the others. Good luck with the search!

Thanks, I normally use a Sony Mirrorless Camera for all my videos. For this one, I changed my approach for 2 reasons. For one, I was hiking with someone else so it wasn't practical to take all the time to set up the camera and tripod for every clip like I normally do. Second, this trail has a lot of elevation gain so I wanted to go as light as possible. So, I opted to use my phone. All of it was shot on an iPhone 14 Pro. This is what both of us used to record all the clips in the video. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!
