My one memory of Christabel Burniston goes back to a festival held somewhere north of Bolton in the early 'fifties, when she adjudicated poetry readings, Shelley's "To the night", if I remember correctly. The fact that I remember her after so long vouches for her total commitment to the speaking of English and the encouragement she gave to all the entrants who spoke those lines. Good for her to know that the ESB still flourishes.
