I never thought to coil my extension cord the exact same way I coil my rope! Thanks for the beta!

Thanks for sharing, but no, this isn't a good way. Maybe by doing it over your neck you're effectively doing a figure-8 method that also works for hoses, and if you tied up the middle with a velcro or wire tie that would be fine, but the length of that is too big and long. The biggest issue is when you tie it up at the end like it was a rope; that tie-up at the end will damage the copper inside the cord. Doing the over-under loop would work better as with sound cables and leads, and an over-over coil is still okay if the cable is quite thick, but with this thickness you will have to deal with potential knots if you're not careful.

This is how you coil climbing ropes this isn't how you coil an extension cord

Just use the "over/under" method and forget wrapping a dirty ass cord around your neck. Less stress on the copper wire and no tangles.

My thoughts exactly, if I'm helping hubby clean up I'm not putting that dirty thing on my neck or clean clothes

It's not a climbing line it has copper inside.

@@markbockmann2073 You don't put tight loops in copper and you don't knot it. There is a reason why the movie industry standard is over-over clockwise with a rope tie off.

@@jfratis9081 within bend radius spec. Just look at the bend radius of the cable when you buy it.

Over and under is the only professional right way to do it. 100% anti-tangle. One day you will learn when you have to work with 100ft cables every day.

This is functionally an over under loop it's just using you neck instead of your palm to make the loop and in this case the over loops and under loops are separated instead of mingled together.

Looks like a great way to pick up all the ants and other crawlies up on your neck and into your hair as well. Over complicated as well. No Thanks. The mountaineers coil has worked well for me for decades. Fast, simple, clean. No tangles. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Best way to 'roll up' a long extension cord, that I have seen.👍👍👍👍👍 .. the only problem is I'm usually 100 feet away from the other end (and that end is plugged in) so not so 'easy' to double it up..

Unplug it. (or you'll be wrapping a live extension cord around yourself as a test to see which part is exposed. That's the last kind of test you may ever make.) (Electrician from Lakewood Colorado)
