Hey, I was wondering if we could use the photos of the hot box and dragging equipment detector equipment on the Position Light site for use on the defect detector site. I help out with the site and think your photos, especially the ones of old HBD equipment in Amtrak towers, could make really awesome additions. Proper credit would be given, of course
@PositionLight9 күн бұрын
Sure thing and thanks for reaching out. I would encourage you to download and re-host the images as the current web hosting might not be stable long term. I won't niitpick how you credit me aside from linking to my blog at position-light.blogspot.com/ as that is where my value added content is. Feel free to link into various topics or pages ,like towers or specific towers.

BTW do you have a link to your defect detector site? I also have some photos of the frangible dragging equipment detectors on the old TN Pass Line and current Moffat Tunnel Route.

@@PositionLight Thanks so much. The site is defectdetector. With a Dot net after detector (KZfaq's weird with links in comments). I think I've seen and downloaded everything detector related, but I'm going through everything once more. Thanks again

@@bali2516 I have quite a few detectors documented. Let me know if I have to submit them manually or if I can just send you a zip file or something..

@@PositionLight I’ve downloaded detector photos from the CN Bessemer sub, Cork Tower, Exeter NH, Paoli Tower, the RBMN, State Tower, Thorn Tower, and UP TN Pass sub. We’re mainly interested in the old equipment. If you have anything else that’s not on the Position Light, you could send it over through the Contact Us section on the website
I operated the juice train in the early 80's for Conrail on the NEC. It's maximum authorized speed was NTE 70 mph, the same as the mail train. We were given the railroad all the way overnight until passenger trains started running again, then it was: 'take the siding.'

I think either the town wanted more noise abatement for diesels or it was to mitigate the sharp grade north of town where the Bridge Line would climb up to the PRSL main line.

I remember when an engineer went through a red light on the Newark Bay Bridge and went through an open lift and plunged 2 Locomotives and coaches into the bay killing 48. it was a Bay Head to Jersey City train. i was 7 years old and I remember the picture of the coach hanging off the open span .

big rail fan BUT I have no idea what the WEST AY is....can you give more details as I only know that Amtrak trains between the 2 Richmond Va. stations are often tied up for a long time and subsequently run late....thanks

I operated freight trains for Conrail in the 70's and 80's and was held at the home signal for thru-passenger (Amtrak) trains to pass before crossing over. One summer's night, the conductor and I sat eye-level with an open window and saw a couple in an apartment in the act. When they finished, I gave them several (low) toots on the horn as a sign of appreciation.

Is there some reason there's a cut here? Why couldn't the tunnel have just bridged this area and homes rebuilt over it?
@PositionLightАй бұрын
Although the line was electrified when built, it was still just a steam assist operation so the cut was needed for ventilation.

Does it contain toxic PCB oil? It was widely sold in Germany and Brazil between 1920 and 1980 before being banned in Brazil. But it looks intact for being from 1930.

Know if they really wanted to make it the way it looked when it first came here. they would’ve put the original wheel trucks on it.

@@PositionLight around 1993-94 they started to replace the original trucks with the PCC type wheel trucks. The trucks currently on the Suburban LRV's are a simular design to what the city kawasaki's had

Back in the 1960s and early '70s, I used to catch the local freight heading up the Catonsville Branch on Saturday mornings heading west from the NEC. Even got to ride to Catonsville with the crew during the Summer of 1968! The crew worked out of Gwynns Run (Gwynn). Gwynn crews also worked the Claremont Branch which ran from the NEC east to a connection with the B&O just south of the Carrollton Viaduct on the Mount Clare trackage. You're correct! There used to be a whole lot of freight traffic on the NEC between Gwynn and Winans with the two branches mentioned, several trackside industries along the NEC that were regularly switched by locals working out of Gwynn, and Frederick Road Station with its team tracks. A lot of busy train watching spots in that part of Baltimore I grew up in back then.
