1:30 I've always said, you can tell a lot about the quality of a Bad Apple by its Shikieiki. And dang, that was a good one. I love how it lined up properly with the gap; like, of course it did, but I still gasped.

hey man, i would love to see the doumentation on this and get my hands on some pf the parts so i can make my own on a larger scale so get a high resolution. been wanting to get into flipdot boards for ages but i dont know where to start as i cant find much information online about how to set them up like this.

This is an off-the-shelf flip-dot panel from around 2000. It was used in a tram, so the performance of the original controller wasn't great, that's why we are using fully custom built ones. You can see most GitHub documentation and source code in the description.

no, but I had to write a program just to convert the video into a format that I can use to play it back on the flip-dot

@@chiffaonosu it was partially ffmpeg, but not all of it couldbe done with ffmpeg, so it needed custom converters.

Do you feel this reaches the theoretical (and/or practical) speed limit or could it be improved still? I'd love to give it a try if at all possible

Most of the bottleneck currently is the amount of time the actual pixels need to flip. If you pay close attention you can see that the frame rate is very dynamic and heavily depends on the amount of pixel updates needed. I could probably speed it up a bit with less overhead on the communication side (this is usb serial at 9600 baud sending each image the moment before drawing with a lot of preprocessing on the host side) but that may be negligible.

@@zsotroav What I noticed on the bad apple video is that it's not even really a problem of low frame rate, but the panels and dots flipping at odd times so it doesn't ever really represent the picture if it's in motion. It seems to me the lines are muxed (or switched) in interleaving halves which makes it not really look correct when moving fast

Correct observation! That's 4 modules connected together, propped up sideways. Due to the physical design of the screen, the updated picture will get drawn line by line (in this orientation column by column) going through all connected modules before going to the next line (column)

Hello. Ezt mivel vezérli, ezt a Gyors Pixel TESZTelést ezen az Utastéri pixel modulon? Érdekelne én az egyik gyroszos 2 pixel modulomból órát szeretnék csinálni. Dátumot, órát lehessen kiiratni, majd ciklikusan változtatva, és a másodpercet is folyamatosan mutassa. Én gyerekkorom óta imádom a FOK-GYEM-eket. Segítségét előre is köszönöm.

@@zsotroav Huu de jó. Köszönöm, hogy válaszolt. Mennyibe kerül egy ilyen Arduino? Lehet rendelni esetleg van linkje,.valamint PC-én keresztül vezérli RS-485-ös USB átalakítón keresztül? Mert nekem is úhy üzemel egy egyszerű szoftverrel kiírások képeket lehet. De én Tetris-eszni is szeretnék a Piros gyroszos 280-aos pixel modulokon illetve van egy Utastéri modul is erre a célra.
