I spent a decent amount of time at Dorney when I was young. My grandmothers uncle Chester Betz operated the Penny Arcade and the Restaurant. My uncle Charles Swoyer was running it until he was killed in an auto accident 1964. Lillian Betz watched over it for a few more years.

Allentown Summer Theatre was a professional theatre with performances in the tent which was erected on the hillside parking lot in the 1960s. I was the stage manager for the theatre-in-the-round and we presented a different musical each week.

My father and my uncle were carpenters who helped to build the roller coaster.

I worked there as a sales rep for the catered company picnics between 1980-85. It was a great job and a fantastic boss, Bob Plarr! Definitely miss those years.

When Dorney was good wholesome fun. Now it's like like every other 6 flags except worse. So much for the quiet grove on Cedar Creek.

Wow, I love this video. I miss the old dorney. So much nostalgia. I was sad when they tore down alfundo and moved the entrance to where it is now.

It's sad that Dorney no longer has this kind of atmosphere. I wonder what Dorney would be like if Cedar Fair didn't buy the park? Would some of the rides still exist?

Exactly I pray I take my family to Knoebels asap before the best nostalgic natural setting is lost. I hope no more roads or hotels ever get built anywhere close. I grew up 6 miles from Dorney Park and dad got us season passes every year that place now is a corporate joke. Getting onto the yellow roller coaster used to be an adventure in itself. Corporate America stole another treasure and did not think about it when the demolition started.
