People making a big deal of nothin That lifeguard test sounds really easy, that’s nothing hard in the slightest This applies to the ones talking about what it actually is too in the comments

When I did mine, I had to pick up the rescue dummy off the bottom, bring it to the surface, switch it out for an 'unconscious casualty' tow the person to the side, support them and then assist in a lift out. Then we switch to a CPR dummy and do CPR. We also had to learn AED. We had to do two timed swims/rescues back to back. And we have to do it all wearing clothes. Also lots of other different tows and rescues. And the spineboard. And that's just the swimming part of the test. First aid, CPR and Q&A. I'm guessing you did a similar test from your comment.

@@Lyca31 Yeah! For our final test out we had to dive 15 feet, get the victim using proper rescue technique, call for a backboard and put them on correctly, climb on the dock without using the ladder, put on gloves and begin 2 minutes of cpr and then use an aed. We learned a bunch of different technique too while mine might be a little different because I am also waterfront certified.

@@Lyca31 Its just a pretest. This isn't the final test. What you're describing sounds like a final test. We take this first thing- it helps narrow down who can actually swim and who can't. We don't cover rescue dummys or CPR or towing. Nothing. Not until after this test.

@@Lyca31 What/who were you guarding for? Because that also depends. Most public pools and waterparks have this as the pretest.
@Lyca31

@@moss_ball. Yes, I was describing the final test. Our pretest is quite easy. We do tend to do a swimming session first, everyone does something like 50m front crawl,50m backstroke, 50m side stroke etc. then we get the dummy off the floor and demonstrate a few holds. Anyone that can't do that probably won't take the final exam. I'm talking about pool lifeguard in the UK. Pool as in 25m swimming pool, not a water park or anything.

@@Emily-ec5hz yeah we had to do 12 laps in a full length pool with no breaks and the brick test was also different and then all the save techniques we also did the 2 minute tres at the end when we were already exhausted

@@MightyMouse982 The test depends on who your getting certified with and what course your doing. From what I can tell this is a swimming pool chain of some kind that does their own certifications. Most pools follow the American life guarding association or American Red Cross standards. I can’t speak for the ALA but I do know it’s pretty similar to test for Red Cross which I do know. You’ll do a 200 swim either freestyle/front crawl or breaststroke. Stop and tread for 2 minutes without hands. Then do another 100. After that you’ll do the brick test where you have to swim 20 yards in the pool then dive down to a 10lb brick that’s at least 9ft deep retrieve it then swim back to where you started put the brick on the side along with the brick and do all of that in 1:40. That’s the pre-requisite test for the standard lifeguard cert. At the end there’s a final exam and final skill assessment where you have to go through the steps of a save. It’s kept secret so you don’t know what to expect. I hope this helped out - Red Cross LGI
