I saw this tour in 1972. Absolutely the best concert imaginable. You had to be there.

Great review. 👍 Imagine discovering Franks music 12 years ago... that's what happened to me. It has been like unwrapping the best Christmas present every day since. Then, the release of the DVD/Blu-ray Live At The Agora a few years later. Ha! My list today (18 June 2024) 1. Mahogany Rush IV 2. World Anthem 3. Strange Universe 4. Juggernaut 5. Child Of The Novelty

I'd like to know if there is any documentation of Ian saying this about TAAB at the actual time they were producing it. His stories about this, and Aqualung not being a concept album just seem like Ian tweaking the audience's nose in a way saying - just make of it what you will. If Ian would have admitted that Aqualung was a concept album ( and I think it was because of the concept written on the back of the album ... In the Beginning, Man Created God ... ) then he would have had to have waded into the hot water of explaining what the concept was, and Ian is a very private person, moreso as time has gone by ... ( and now for God's sake kindly leave me alone ) ;-)

Great. With my awful memory, I wish I'd made notes of the gigs I saw (100s) over the years, including this one. I certainly remember everyone finally getting to their feet when Bob & top hat stepped into the spotlight, allowing me to get as close to the front as I wanted, and how I was also mesmerised by him - not being a particular fan until that night. Still love the Blood on the Tracks, Desire, Street Legal period. And me and my mate retired to our tent - a transparent plastic bag from the Phurnacite factory, vaguely held up by sticks. Thanks for bringing back some other memories here too.

That is an awesome account of the evening, I was so pleased to find this commentary (by accident). I was there, and took with me a friend who didn't know the first thing about Spirit. We were mesmerised. I'd been a fan for years and made a huge effort to get to this gig from the North-East. I have to agree, I saw many amazing gigs at The Rainbow but this was really something else. We too did make our way to The Metropole Hotel after the show - it's in Edgeware Road just down from Marble Arch, a bit of a trek from Finsbury Park, and when we got there it was like being in a Tampa Jam, so many people who just wanted to acknowledge how life-affirming that performance had been. Thank you for this reminder of a night I will never forget.

I was there on August 11th and my memories are close to yours. Keith Richards was off his box, Jimmy Page spent the whole evening Dazed and Confused, Bonzo was Majestic and Robert Plant tried very, very hard to make it work. But oh, 45 years on when I play Kashmir and Trampled Under Foot, I'm back at that scabby and sodden excuse for a festival. I was 19 and I'd finally seen Led Zeppelin. Priceless memory.
