Whatever profession you want to do, kids, approach it with as much passion and toughness as Mr Spann, and you’ll be alright.

3:33:00 - 4:11:00 was when the Rainsville EF5 occurred, ripping through a good portion of Northeast Alabama into Georgia and causing 25 deaths, yet there clearly wasn’t word about that tornado occurring. The radar near Rainsville was down, causing inaccurate data, and was overshadowed by the Birmingham tornado.

3:01:15 I wonder how many calls James Spann got from principals that day? I would imagine not a lot because they knew they would get chewed out by the Master. Spann and Gary England in OKC are weather gods (small g).

when i heard of tornadoes in bama on this day media reports said little to nothing in regards to Bama being ravaged….and ravaged…and ravaged. The focus was on University. THIS should have been TELEVISED on ALL CHANNELS nationwide. I GUARANTEE that, no matter WHAT stations were airing…THIS would have gotten better ratings AND THE NATION would have been in COMPLETE COLLECTIVE READINESS to ASSIST in ANY WAY we could have ASAP in ALL AFFECTED STATES. I have refererred MANY people, friends, family, coworkers…all GOOD PEOPLE and REAL AMERICANS to this video…this event…and most…im talking about DOZENS OF GOOD AMERICANS that were ADULTS when this happened….and they DIDNT EVEN KNOW THIS HAPPENED. its time to get REAL AMERICANS to CONTROL OUR MEDIA and EVERYONE IVE TALKED TO AGREES.

I love Spann. He is an amazing meteorologist, and I believe he's an amazing man too. Why would anyone hate him? He reads these so comically though. This man has saved countless lives too, earning my respect forever.

Watching this in 2024. When I was a kid(in the 70s) my dad was the weather alert system. The warnings wouldn’t come until after the tornado was already past. When the weather was bad, dad would keep an eye on the skies and tell us when to go to the basement. We have come so far…

I really didn't like their radar at the time of this outbreak. I was comparing the tornado paths with the radar velocity. They have nicely updated it since.

People like to give the weatherman's job a bad wrap. I can tell you. It is so hard to perfectly predict the weather. James is one of the greats simply because of how good of a man he is and how much he cares for the community of Alabama. I know he felt bad for the gridlock that these people were suffering through.

3:01:10 At this moment, James Spann gives one of the best one-liners in the history of weather broadcasting. He's willing to take the heat from principals and teachers if their kids aren't at school. What I love about James Spann is that his one goal is to keep people safe. He did it the best he could on 4/27/2011, and I know he was deeply saddened about those who lost their lives that day. He is a true hero, and one of the greatest meteorologists of all time.

This event underperformed on what was predicted for a HIGH Risk. There would be no more tornadoes in the viewing area after they went back to regular programing after the 8:35p.m. update. The highest rated Tornado in the viewing area was EF2 (Chilton, CO) Regarding overnight and next day...no tornadoes touched down in the viewing area. Most activity remained to the SE part of Alabama.
