The crossdressing episode *almost* says some interesting things. The recurring bit about Lena being the most under suspicion because she doesn't live up to certain standards of femininity is interesting and the reverse Mulan plot could have been sweet if played straight. The ending really lost everything good that made it into that mess of an episode...

fake was legitimately one of the first boy's love manga i ever read, i remember stumbling across it in a secondhand bookstore when i was teen and as at the time i was being raised in a very very conservative mega church i was really shocked cause stuff like this was not shown or talked about at all except in super negative contexts. Years later after i got out of that church, its super funny to me to look back and seeing how the romance was presented made me realize years down the line that i was very much not a straight cis person (i identify now as a gay trans man) but yeah thank you for talking about this! like it's very important for people to know esp in the retro anime spaces that something like this did in fact exist

This anime/manga probably empowers and designs women better than anything that has come out in the last 5 years since all the woke everything must be gay stuff. Women (or whoever is supposedly writing "strong" female characters these days) need to look at this and re-learn what it means to be cool. A show for everyone is a show for noone. But Desert Rose? That might just be the exception to the rule. Amazing video.

Cindy and the whole episode is just a Batman plot. It's literally an episode of a Batman series. It's actually a good plot but doesn't work because of how stupid the rest of the OVA is.

Haha Yeah..the idea that anything made by man would be inheritantly free of flaws IS a fairly foolish notion. Flaws are a subjective concept that we define. If a flawed being that defines what a flaw is, creates and programs something, you can bet their own recognized flaws will be expressed in the end product. It's the age old dream of aspiring to creates something that is more than the sum of our parts turned into a nightmare scenario. Great fiction.

You ending reflection made me cry. You mentioned how this movie does not feel cheap and manipulative. One thing thta gebuinly irks me is when KZfaqrs select to do a video on media with some kind of emotional message just so they can do a finishing speach on how much it meant and deep it was just for the manipulative factor. It is so honestly infuriating and makes me want to scream "WHAT YOU WANT AN EMMY OR SOMETHING FUCKER!" at the screen these days for how oversaturated the platform is with it. You can always tell when the are just hamming it up, saying what they feel is the best dramatic thing expected for them to say and hoping we'll all gasp and quietly dab out eyes at their genius while they don't actually care. Again, you can tell when this is the case and that's what seperates it from a genuine outro written with emotional investment. You kept mentioning how much this meant to you early on, nearly causing me to roll my eyes but you PROVED it by the end. I believe you gebuinly came up with everything yoy said in heartfelt expression. Thank you SO much for this. It's so hard not to see youtube in a jaded lense these days as just another version of cable but less regulated and more xapitolism driven with how it formats things. The little bits of genuine heart and vulnerability like this is what makes it worthwhile. Thank you for making this video one of those moments as this movie deserves it. Thank you for being more than a dumb Tuberbot and sharing some of your joy with us. One more time. 💛✌️🤟

Yikes, that's some of the most unfortunately awful transphobia I've seen in an anime for a while.
@brightlight88522 күн бұрын
Well, is it really? Kaitlyn Jenner a former olympic athlete pointed out that trans women should not compete with biological women because it wouldn't be fair, and that it was unsportsmanlike. It is a fact that women are different from men biologically, which is why sports are separated to begin with. A man competing in women's sports is seen as unsportsmanlike because he is doing so knowing that he has a biological advantage over his competitors. It's also not as if there isn't a section for trans athletes. There is actually a division for trans athletes. Some of them just don't want to compete in it likely because their own ranking in that division is low. Which is why that trans swimmer lost their case.
@konni08832 күн бұрын

@crosshero94362 күн бұрын
@@brightlight8852 Agreed. One can look and feel as female as they want, but if they went through all the development stages of a male person, the biological differences are just there and won't go away. It's not transphobic, it's just that women also want and deserve a fair competition.

Nice to see a Kyoto Video retrospective on two of my favourites. That was a pleasure to watch. Pity we weren't graced with at least one clip from the OVA's horrendous gag dub, but oh well. As for the 19:12 - 22:14 segment, I don't see the issue/harm, Anna is happy at the end of the day.

In all honesty, majority of [harmful] things in fiction tends to go over my head, as I usually explore those purely just for entertainment rather than to take something out of it, be it ideologies, philosophies, etc. To be fair, that partly might be 'cause I've got my values and beliefs set pretty early on, seeing no bigger need in taking on others in conviction that what I have is already fair/just enough to both myself and everyone out there. Of course, I do find issues with outright harmful actions taking place in real world, mind you.

in some ways Victory predicted Restart with Akari's mom and the plot point surrounding her lol think about it, someone decided to dig up the grave of something that had long since died and revived it. Battle Athletes RESTART is the same as Akari's mom, something that came from digging up the dead IP of a known series back in the day and was given a fresh coat of paint to supposedly compete with the "athletes/shows" of today but lacked the charm and grace of the original. WEIIIIIIRD ISN'T IT?
@Erytronne3 күн бұрын
It was a given that you'd cover _Battle Athletes_ eventually and as usual, you delivered And I agree, _Victory_ is _far_ more entertaining than the OVA and the final episodes of _Victory_ are so much fun _ReSTART!_ just didn't need to exist, and it was redundant since we already have _Uma Musume_ as as the closest modern day successor to _Battle Athletes_ anyway The fact that we have so little yuri fanart of _ReSTART!_ compared to the OG series pretty much says all (And even before I realized that I'm trans, the OVA's treatment Anna always left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm in full agreement there too)

While it’s not about JUST the Olympics, Yawara A Fashionable Judo Girl had the 1992 Olympics as a massive plot element, culminating in the Olympics. Each episode ended with a countdown to the 1992 Olympic games - the first time women’s judo would be a medaled event. It was so popular, one of the competitors was nicknamed Yawara-chan. Also please cover Yawara someday if you’re ever so inclined.
