As a Brazilian guy I appreciate these American DIY videos, good job! We don't have that culture here, in the minor problem we take the car to the mechanic due the lack of knowledge!

the fan motor axle was rusty, putting some lubricant was probably needed, finally we did not see the problem since you did not demonstrate the fan motor rotation and speed before and after

I followed this video step by step. Once the new battery was in the vehicle started and drove immediately. I then used the very same foxwell as in this video to register the battery. It said the registration was successful. Now the car won’t start at all. The battery is clearly working because the light, radio, etc. are working. The car simply won’t start now. Any idea why is this might be happening?

Yes, that's true. You won't believe it, but I also like this E-class model. Especially with V8 engine E500.... 😅 And maybe one day I will buy one too. And now, thanks to you, I will learn about his problems...😊

Holding up great, no peeling or wear. I wipe each lens with ceramic spray (Griot's) after a wash. I suspect it might take a year or two or three to eventually yellow or degrade.

Great job, a very well done and detailed video that makes replacing the odometer gear set on an E30 so much easier and with good step by step instructions, for sure ! NOW, I have a question about the metal retainer (that you managed to squeeze with a cutter to remove it) of the little gear that goes on the motor shaft . Since there was no mention of the new one of the metal retainer that secures the little gear (E gear ?) in place, being supplied in the new gear set kit, did you end up NOT putting that old retainer back on and hopping that the little gear will stay on that smooth shaft snug enough ??
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 4 күн бұрын
The old metal fitting that is cut off is not re-installed. The new plastic gear sets are designed to fit snugly together. The new gear sets these days typically includes all of the new parts needed.

Great job! I have a 2000 e39 and limped into the garage. Surely, the transmission had it at 150K miles. The mechanic said it was the fluid, and that GM transmission would last forever. Now I'm at 260K miles and thinking about changing the transmission oil again. The garage wants $750 to replace the fluid. What?!!

Looks in great shape. Do you think these tend to be more reliable or cheaper to own than the comparable bmw?
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 5 күн бұрын
Thanks! I think the e-class is a competitor with the 5 series. Some Mercedes parts are definitely more costly from what I have seen browsing FCP Euro's site. I believe these early models are some of the most reliable engine/transmission combinations ever built. The later e320 had 'balance shaft' issues that would destroy the engine. Perhaps 2003 is peak German car! So far the W211 feels quieter inside than an E39, more luxurious and less sporty.

I have an 04 E320 with 239k miles. It’s such a nice commuter with a great sound system. Also, very nice to work on. I recommend servicing the transmission because while it’s one of the most durable automatics out there, it’s the sore point with my car because the previous owner didn’t service it.
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 6 күн бұрын
Wow, great mileage. I've heard these early model e320's can go for 300-400k miles as the 5 speed auto is very robust. The early V6 avoids the troubles with the balance shaft of the later models.

Could be so many things. If you're lucky it is just air in the system. Could be bad thermostat, water pump, overheating can also crack the head or ruin headgasket on these engines. Get it inspected asap!

Note that you may need to pry up the small tabs on the end of the plug connector to get it off. requires a small flat head, but be careful not to break them.

Great video. Did you ever get it fixed? (saw the comment where it came back). I have a E23 that has this problem.. I do not have the module and I think I have a older type ICV with a screw to adjust idle. I tried looking for vacuum leaks and tested the TPS.. not sure how to fix this problem :I
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 20 күн бұрын
Hi, yes I did get it resolved. BMW put black plastic idle control valves on these early cars. Even though it passed the bench tests, it was defective. I put in a 325e metal body idle control valve and it resolved the issue permanently. They're not cheap these days, but definitely try that next.
