I use a kiln to fire them because they're ceramic! If it's not ceramic you can use other glazes that just dry

2:20 the reason the old one broke is likely because you didn't use slip to attach it: after you score, apply slip, not plain water, that way the clay binds better. Slip is what melds things, without it, things have fewer "connection" points in between parts, making them weaker/more prone to breakage.
