a fellow named Ralph said the Cox engines are a lot better and thought the reed valve may be the reason. my off hand opinion is that castor oil should be the only oil. Mostly you have to run these little ones for a while to get predictable performance. in modern terms, If a Cox 094 was 50 watts and a peewee was 25 watts this engine is about 35 watts. it sounds like a solid engine.

My McCoy .29, Fox .35, McCoy .20 and McCoy .10 were never hard to start. 6v Batt, and Testors fuel. No problem Wish i could go back.

It's funny that those rubber contact strips are made precisely to shield the contact surface from dust and dirt! Usually spilled coffee etc is the thing that can sneak under the edges and interfere with the contact interfaces...

Thanks for the flights!, , 5 years on. I run a Norvel .074 R/C on 35% and 1 shim, ex-hot plug, with a hand balanced 6x3, and it runs like it should. Otherwise, they all have pretty lazy port timing as per my timing wheel. Norvel's are a great little engine, and I have a bunch of them in different ships. They just need to be "Hot Rodded" a bit for dependability, and responsiveness, and sealed up well. Lots of air leaks on those motors NIB, so they don't like a high methanol mix right off the bat, per say. You'll boil the cylinder rag loose before you put a quart thru it.

That was cool, I had that experience with my Graubner sail-plain with 0.51 cox TD it stays 5 to 7 feet from the ground for a long time with external tank, was also to rich, was fun

Hey guys I forgot to mention that was a good story and nice little travel back in time to hear about that OK cub 0.49 motor.. whatta beautiful plane that u have therr.I luv luvvv luv those old school planes and motors... I learned on a Cox 189 Cessna with a 0.49 motor and a cox Sanwa 2 ch radio. That was a very expensive bird for a 10 yr kid back in 1983. I flew crashed , and rebuilt that 🐦 bird from 1983 to 1988. I killed it furr good in 1988.. and then 1 day I found the exact same bird 🐦 with a radio all complete at a flea market for $40.. talk about getting lucky..anyways I just wanted to comment on that Kool viiddd and plane. 👍🙃👍

This was the first 200 i ever went to and i was 11 Years Old

A Freshman 29. I flew one when I was 8 in 1974 with a McCoy 29. 58 now. I remember It was a slick epoxied natural finish with rubber wheels. The guy had done a fabulous job and had helped me in the circle when we flew. Finishing up a Carl Goldberg Shoestring Stunter, that will get a NIB McCoy 35, that I just finished breaking-in. The 35 was pulled down all the way before any fuel went thru. Glad I did. I found some scabs of dissimilar metal corrosion in places it shouldn't have been from sitting all that time.

Great video! I was looking for entry points into model airplanes and got me a rubber powered glider with very nice glide performance and I also plan to do a RC conversion on it next week. I'm also eager to try out if the SuperCap powered Motor from Vincent Merlijns Rookie has enough power to sustain its altitude for some time :)

I thinned down a red Guillows prop to about a third of the thickness . I can attest to the amount of plastic dust it creates . I sanded it dry , and holy cow it made some dust . The whole time I was thinking " man I'm breathing all that crap in " so I took a break and went out back for a smoke .

Do you guys put any wash out in the wing tips? I would expect that you probably put 1/8th or so in them. Right?

Dropping a wing to make your plane circle is a poor way to trim your flights. I would be more impressed is you attained wider circling with no appreciable drop in that left wing. Just my opinion. Other wise kudos.
