There are more detailed guides on the internet - but basically just loosen the roof rail at the back (behind the light) and then wriggle off the shade (screwdriver helps to release the central guides from the rail)

I had one for years , with the 550 cc 3 cylinder over head cam motor , it had aircon and power steering, then it broke down after 220 000 km , i found out the same engine family was a 800 cc 3 cylinder and a 550 cc Turbo model , i put the 550 turbo on the 800 cc it was so fast and weighed 350 kg total , later i found out the Suzuki swift had a engine version with 4 cylinder 1000cc and 5 speed manual , so in went that ! With the swifts 15 inch wheels on those tiny hubs , trouble was it would go into 5 gear at 165 kmh and that speed in that body felt like a race car , in Japan it could come with all wheel drive , i had always wondered why it had a trans tunnel if it was front wheel drive ? i always wanted to put a Suzuki 1400 cc Hyerbusa bike engine in it and really scare people ! Lol

@JosephCowen-fz8vj2 ай бұрын
@@classicandclunker yes it was fun car , Im in Australia and I once drove from Sydney 300km to get some parts , I had a big block 425 Olds v8 block in the back and two tyres, a turbo 700 Transmission behind the seats ( there is a surprising amount of room there) and a complete 4.2 litre GM Holden V8 on the front seat ( with the seat belt around it) minus heads and intake , so at least 400 kg all up in load , then drove back to Sydney another 300 km . That was with the original 550cc 3 cylinder, it went fine . Ive always loved small Japanese cars , it started as a kid I got a Daihatsu 360 cc Van , it was 2 cylinders and a Two Stroke . When I got the Mighty Boy I thought of many engines , at first I wanted the old Suzuki LJ50 3 Cylinder Two Stroke in it , but it was too different , but all the later 3 cylinder , 550, 550 turbo and 800 cc are externally the same and the Swift of that era is the same motor but one extra cylinder and 1000cc.

The ones around the back? Yes, not the easiest to access.. Maybe try a screwdriver with a 90-degree turn in it? Or if it's rusted in, some penetrating oil? Mechanics would have taken steering wheels off frequently, so there must be some trick to it! Good luck

Anyone saying car driver was in the wrong is pretty dumb. This stretch of road is average speed monitored. You can't speed up to overtake if you're already on the speed limit, or the cameras will pick up on the discrepancy and you end up with a ticket. Trucker was in the wrong and had low situational awareness.

Hi, im looking at getting a mighty boy, i think it still has the original enginge in it. just wondering if you think it would be safe to drive on the highway just to get it home?
@classicandclunker4 ай бұрын
It should be fine, as long as it's not for a long time - keep an eye on the temp gauge and pull over as needed to cool down. Maybe just do 80 if you can, to account for the F5A engine. I used to take a 2 speed auto Mighty Boy on the highway with the bigger F8B engine and it didn't like it. However the manual F8B I have now is hardly worried by doing 100

Thank you for the quick response, i have another question the mighty boy im looking at is for $14,000 is that way overpriced or is that to be expected now as they are more rare? its also in mint condition and my trip would be from Springfield to Elimbah @@classicandclunker
@classicandclunker4 ай бұрын
@@tauriplay1239 you'll pay around $5k for a registered and driving MB, so for $14k it would have to be in remarkably good condition. There are some out there over the $10k but they might have very low KMs or have had a bare shell respray.. If there's any rust in the usual trouble spot of the firewall (even minor) then I'd say it's not worth even $10k. There's a very rare soft top one in Mackay and it's $8k on Gumtree.. I'm in the Caboolture area too, you'll see a couple of Mighty Boys around here

Isn't that gluey stuff there to prevent water ingress?
@classicandclunker6 ай бұрын
Very likely - but any other time I've done this (with other cars of that era) it's just had light foam padding to seal it. That's why I transferred some of the glue to the replacement. Then last night it poured, and this morning I went out to check for any ingress - and there was none
@nigelbryanmee6 ай бұрын
@@classicandclunker Yes, some use foam, but they tend to become brittle & disintegrate with age. With mastic like sealant, they stay pliable.

I used Celebrate brand "Treat Sticks" I purchased from the party isle in Walmart to make replacement pins for the switches which do not need to have one end flattened (like a nail). I cut four new pins from one of the Treat Sticks; each a bit less than 10mm long. They are about 4mm in diameter. The colored pack of 50 Treat Sticks fit the hole in the switch assembly better than the silver ones that were a bit tight. I used a box knife and cutting board to make clean cuts. At first I was concerned that the pins might fall out when the switch was depressed but they stay in just fine so all that is needed for this repair are strait 4mm dia. pins about 9.5mm long. The video shows the rest.
